2013 PGA Tour Thread
So, season is full underway (I know Golf in January)...
Team Nike off to a poor start - both Woods and McIlroy missed the cut in Dubai... Tiger missed because he got a two shot penalty for taking an incorrect drop. Rory changed back from his Nike Method putter to his Scotty Cameron after one day.
At the Bob Hope tournament, a bunch of Canadians are in the mix, and Mike Weir finally played a good round of golf. Stephen Ames played well in Hawaii and had a good first round as well.

Wasn't Tiger paid a $3 million appearance fee? If so, Im sure they are ticked his performance was so awful and only stuck around for 2 days. I know he is playing Torrey Pines next weekend, and flying Sunday night from Abu Dhabi to San Diego would have sucked- maybe he just went for the appearance fee and used the 2 rounds to experiment with some new techniques. He seemed to take it serious last year (finished 2nd), but didn't look too interested the last couple days.

Yikes... Really tough to see someone like Mike Weir struggle as much as he has. I have always found him to be a class act and a pro. He went into the 18th hole today above the cut line, then proceed to triple bogey the hole which knocked him out. He has not made a cut on TOUR since the 2011 Memorial Tournament. That makes it 18 straight cuts he has missed. On the bright side this weekend has been probably the best golf he has played since missing the cut at the Memorial in 2011.

Yuh, i think it has been his wrist that has messed up his game. Has mentioned that it is about 90%. A nagging thumb injury has derailed Anthony Kim's career as well.
The good news with Weir is he could easily find a head pro job ls at one of those insanely wealthy private clubs in Utah and make 250K+ a year (which is what a rich mans course would probably pay a retired Masters champ). Not to mention doing appearances, promos for clubs. Not sure if he owns any courses

Weir's having a good round today at -5 thru 10. 2 other Canadian's in the top 10 is pretty cool. Hopefully they keep it up. And Tiger is playing in his first pga tournament of the year.

Which course is Weir starting on though? North is basically a par 68 for these guys while the south is the championship course that the US open was played on (and where the post-cut will be).
Hopefully he can have a good round tomorrow if that is on the South course.

Just looked it up- Weir is on the north. Still, solid round and they say you need a minimum of 3 or 4 under on the North to be happy with your score.
Tiger having a great round on the south with a -5 thru 12. That includes a double on the front 9... too bad. Im sure that is close to the low round on the south so far today, but not sure. If he can finish around 5 under and then have the easy north course tomorrow, watch out.

Some nobody finished with a -5 on the South Course already and Steve Marino finished with -4. Those seem like the lowest scores other than Tigger.

Is it 2004 or something? Mike Weir at the top of a leaderboard?

Looks like he might be over the injury stuff. Rebound year for him and Ames?

Looks like a boat load of Canadians are going to make the cut at the Farmers at Torrey Pines, including Brad Fritsch who is tied for second - hope he can keep his nerves about him tomorrow (and doesn't get paired with Woods).
Weir had a solid day on Thursday, hope he can have some more of the same on the weekend - get a top 25 or something (although it is great to see him actually make a cut).

I'm disappointed that Weir making a cut is going to get more press than younger Canadians who are actually finishing better in the tourneys.
I like Weir - I really do - but I have much higher hopes for Fritsch, DeLaet, and Rutledge (Champions) than I do for Weir this year. Ames has been a pleasant surprise and Hearn just sticks around.l Hadwin could have a good run this year as well.

I agree to an extent. Weir still does deserve some coverage though. He's really our only golf royalty.
Hadwin probably has the most potential with a couple top tens already and always makes the cut when he gets in a tournament. He won't be playing on the pga tour this year though.

I think DeLaet is the guy long term, but this year I think Fritsche ends up as top Canadian money winner.
I started a thread on the main Flames page on whether the Flames should support DeLeat and Ames (as both are flames fans).

I think if Hadwin or Fritsch make a top 5 this weekend that will get some press. I think they young guys have to be consistently in the top 10 and crack the top 100 in the world golf ranking before they will get enough consideration from the press.
Weir, when healthy, has proven he can win at the PGA level.

Was at the Sony Open in Hawaii a few weeks ago and found it to be a great experience. Spent one day following Mike Weir, Y.E.Yang and Davis Love 111 around the course. Also spent some time following John Daly - man he looked aged beyound his years. Hope to do this again next year.

Brad Fritsche currently t-2 early in the third round of the PGA Farmer's. He is behind some guy named Woods.
36 holes today due to the fog yesterday. Would be cool to see Fritsche get paird with Tiger for the final round.

You wouldn't know that Fritsch is even playing in this even playing in this tournament.
All Tiger all the time (lets watch Tiger eat a snack - I think it was a banana, but didn't want to type watch Tiger eat a banana for fear of being branded a racist), and occasionally the two plugs playing along side of him, mixing in a little bit of indifferent play from 53rd place Phil Mickelson.
