You don't see cops at every 7-11 making sure no one robs the store. How does the store ever make any money if every person walking in just robs them blind?
It might be that the majority of people in the United States are rational, law-abiding citizens.

So you think Canadians went and all registered their firearms when the gun registry came in? They didn't, which is why the amnesty program was created.
The ATF can try to enforce all they want, but if local law enforcement isn't on board, nothing will happen.

One of my rifles takes the AR mag and it comes with a ten round mag but it's a bolt action. It's nice when I get to kill yotes to have the ten round mag instead of 3-4 rounds like most rifles. I also have a bipod on it just like my other rifles and using a 30 round mag is just stupid to me even though it has a bull barrel and will get too hot.

When the last assault weapons ban was enacted, existing firearms/magazines were grandfathered in. I'd assume it would be the same this time around.

I wasn't old enough when that happened, I don't have nor need an AR for anything but I dont care what other people own.

Not to sound cocky or anything, but with a bipod mounted bolt action rifle with a good sight, I don't know if you need more then 3 or 4 rounds to hit a yote, unless its a yote zerg rush.

Yeah I know what you mean, just nice to have a few extra rounds if needed.
When I'm at the range I don't even use the mag, I leave it in the gun but only put one round in at a time.

What do you mean? Shooting gophers with a .22 loaded with a 30 round magazine is fun. :/

Though issue with a lot of these guns is tons of gun owners aren't taking their weapons seriously or handling them in a safe manner. For every gun owner like yourself that locks your stuff away, that keeps the things unloaded and away from children, there are probably ten more than keep them loaded under their pillow or bed. Recipe for accidental killing right there and probably explains a good chunk of the 43x.

I can remember going house hunting out in Maple Ridge (just outside of Vancouver) about 17 years ago before our laws toughened up and of 5 houses we saw one day 3 had guns lying around, went into a bedroom of one and there was 2 shotguns and a lever action and bolt action on a rack on a table and a couple of handguns in the closet, could have just picked one up and walked away with it!

Imagine Alex Jones, Ted Nugent or John Rocker as Mayor of NYC.

I've never heard of any firearm that has a 3-4 rnd limit with the exeption of shotguns used in duck hunting. Other than that, the other maximum is 5 for semi auto center fire rifles. Any other action is 10 I think with the exception of rimfire.

One thing I've always thought might be useful is a delaying mechanism when reloading a magazine or clip. It wouldn't have to be long, 5 or 10 seconds, but it wouldn't really interfere with regular gun users at shooting ranges, but would eat some time, which in a situation where a guy is shooting at a group of people, it'll reduce the amount of damage he can do before a response team can arrive.

Of course not, but many did.
If anyone was to turn in a gun, that would reduce the numbers of assault weapons out there. I have to think that there would at least be some portion of the population that would willingly participate in some sort of buy-back program.
edit: If, as mentioned in a further post, old weapons would be grandfathered in without any sort of buy-back option, then it is quite possible that it would not significantly reduce the numbers of these weapons.

I think that is called 'bolt action'!
