Cleveland Browns name Norv Turner offensive coordinator; 5 other coaches added to Rob Chudzinski's staff

http://www.cleveland.com/browns/inde...ml#incart_2box

The other five include newcomers Brad Roll (Strength & Conditioning), Mike Sullivan (Offensive Line) and Scott Turner (Wide Receivers), who is Norv Turner's son.

In addition, Chris Tabor (Special Teams Coordinator) and George Warhop (Offensive Line) will be retained from last year’s staff. Warhop and Sullivan will both have the title of offensive line coach.

The Browns are also set to interview former Bucs head coach Raheem Morris for their defensive coordinator position, as early as Friday, a source said.

Turner is a good hire as OC. He is a good play caller, other thing is that he's probably done as a head coach, so he should be able to stay on the staff for more than a few seasons and help bring some stability.

Turner was a big Alex Smith fan and did well with him when he was OC for the 49ers.

Raheem Morris would be a great hire as DC as well.

Good luck to Arians in Arizona. Going to be interesting to see who the Colts hire to be their OC. A bit disappointed that Luck and the rest of the offense is going to have to learn a whole new offense again this season.

Darrel Bevell, Seattle's OC missed out on the Jacksonville job, as it was taken by the Seattle DC Bradley, when he finished second in Philly to Kelly.

Not a huge loss in Bradley. The defense got better this year thanks to the horses that Schnieder and Carroll brought in up front on the line, and in the draft at LB...and the secondary kept on its path. To get even better next year, they need more pass rush on the line, and a bit more depth up front and at LB too.
Quinn coached the D line in Seattle a few years back, so knows some of these guys, so its a good hire.

Bevell has now been given an extension by Seattle. Wilson made the offense what it was, which was anemic last year under Bevell with Tavares and Whitehurst...but credit to Bevell for adapting to Wilson, after planning to have a traditional west coast offense with Flynn all summer. He eased Wilson into the games a bit at the end of preseason and the first 4 or 5 games of the regular season, and then took the reigns off the playbook for Wilson about the 6th game of the season, and Seattle took off.

Some OC's would be stubborn and force the rookie QB to do things thier way, thankfully
Bevell didn't. The continuity for a young QB to have with his OC is good, too.

Looks like Trestman is clearing house in Chicago, and word is he's bringing some guys down with him from MTL...maybe even Milanovitch from Toronto.

Trestman should bring in all the CFL head coaches.. the CFL all-star team!

And Eagles/Bears game would be a lot more fun. Eagles going for 2 all the time and the Bears trying to get no yards.

Browns/Eagles drama.

http://www.csnphilly.com/football-ph...677&feedID=704

Quote:
Lurie, owner of the Eagles, said former Eagles executive Joe Banner, his boyhood friend, top adviser for nearly two decades and now CEO of the Browns, appears to be the source of anonymous comments sharply critical of Eagles general manager Howie Roseman that appeared recently in a story on a national sports web site.

“I’m very supportive of Howie, and if there’s any criticism coming from afar about Howie, it’s just off-base, and so I will support Howie completely, because that’s not right,” Lurie said.

“And, you know, if there are league sources that are really based in Cleveland, that’s not right. We see through it all.”

......

Banner released a statement through Browns spokesman Neal Gulkis denying in the strongest terms that he was the source of the comments in La Canfora’s story.

“It is always difficult to comment on a quote that may or may not be accurate or in context. In this case, from the comments which Jeffrey made that were communicated to me, it is necessary for me to make this clear, unambiguous statement. Any implication that I had anything to do with Jason La Canfora’s story is completely false, outrageous and borders on being libelous.

“I had absolutely no conversation with Jason La Canfora. Having demonstrated my character over the last 44 years to Jeffrey and the last 14 to Howie, it is beyond disappointing that they would suggest such a thing. As tempting as it is to go further, other than defending myself, I will continue to take the high road on all such matters as I have since the day I left the Eagles.”

........

Kelly said in Philadelphia on Thursday that the Browns were never in the mix, that he knew all along he would either return to Oregon or take the Eagles job.

“It was evident to me that I was either going to go to Philadelphia or stay in Oregon,” Kelly said. “When I met with Jeffrey and Howie and Donald right there, I knew obviously I thought that this was the best spot.”

.........

“We knew strategically what was going on with league sources and stuff like that,” Lurie said. “This was such erroneous reporting it was insane.

“The people we interviewed and the people who called the people we interviewed were so positive that I think it dwarfed any of the individual agendas of anybody that was quoted as league sources. It was a joke to us, really.”

..........

Lurie said he hasn’t spoken to Banner recently to discuss his suspicion that Banner was the one who planted negative quotes about Roseman in La Canfora’s story.

“I haven’t done that,” he said. “But if I have to do it I will.”

I see Cam Cameron is still looking for work after the Jets didn't hire him after bringing him for an interview.

Being serious though Dan Leberfeld (he covers the Jets) said on twitter that Pep Hamilton is the new OC for the Colts. He was at Stanford with Andrew Luck as the OC/QB Coach. Though I think sometimes its best to wait for a blowhard like Adam Schefter to confirm it. Then again Dan Leberfeld has been covering the Jets for something like 10+ years and if I remember correctly Pep Hamilton was with Jets back in 2003 and might know something that someone else doesn't.

Sounds like the Eagles could hire Georgia DC Tod Grantham as their new DC and switch to a 3-4.

That be quite the switch. If they do, do they look at drafting Star Lotulelei?

I'd still like them to focus on the O-line, but if they did then I think anyone out of Lotulelei, Milliner, and Jarvis Jones could be drafted.

EDIT: That being said, the O-line is probably not as bad as injuries made it look this year, whereas the secondary is awful.

To me the Eagles secondary was awful more because of scheme, not necessarily talent. Asomugha is still a top flight corner, but to take a guy who's played man his whole life and drop him into zone isn't going to work. DMC is probably gone though, with a piss poor corner market someone is going to overpay. Eagles should look at O-Line with that top pick, but I can understand going after Millner.

They switched to man mostly this year, which was the reason they traded Samuel, and the result was Asomugha getting torched at least once per game. He was pretty much the worst player on the field in week 17.

Well it doesn't look like it will be entirely new. Luck's coach Pep Hamilton who ran the offense from when he was at Stanford looks like he will be the new OC for the Colts.

Statement from 49ers' GM Trent Baalke
Quote:
"We are aware of the allegation against Michael and understand that he has fully cooperated with authorities. The 49ers take such matters very seriously. We will have no further comment at this time as the legal process is ongoing. Additional requests for comment should be directed to Michael's attorney."
Apparently it happened after the Packer game.
If they see he did it, I hope he is gone, even if the 49ers win on Sunday and are preparing for the SuperBowl.

Although that would hurt - the top 3 WR from the depth chart would then be gone.

True, but Luck was the first to learn Arians' scheme so I'm sure he'll have no issues with Hamilton, but guys like Wayne who are going through their 3rd offense in 3 years must be tough. Did Hamilton call plays at Stanford or was it David Shaw?
