They are currently blocking the highway to the ferry and airport here on the island. People are not impressed to say the least.

By no means am I claiming to be for or against the Idle No More movement, but I feel strongly to have all the facts to understand things fully.

Some information about what changes are being made that have helped spark Idle No More from CBC.

CONCLUSION
This has nothing to do with race or ethnicity. Native people did begin this movement—energized by Chief Spence’s sacrifice and sparked by the Four Founders’ initiative. Yet this movement belongs to anybodywho wants to stand up for the Earth and women and also make a positive change in the community. That means that non-Natives are certainly welcome. We need non-Natives involved to save this Earth, to give our children and grandchildren the same quality of life that we have enjoyed. It’s about clean water. It’s about clean air. It’s about safety for all women. It’s about making a positive change in our communities. Critics seem to be so caught up on race; yet even racists want their children to have clean water just like non-racists. Right? Well, we want racists (and NON-racists, of course) to have kids with clean water too. Oh, and we don’t want them to get raped or beaten either.
Not too unreasonable, is it?
Here’s a little music and video to close this piece. It’s a project that we (Rock Paper Jet Productions, LLC) did with rapper and producer Brother Ali. Coincidentally, it doesn’t mention race—it mentions wanting to make the world slightly better. And when it comes down to it, that what the Idle No More Movement is about.
“I want to pass this planet to my son
A little better than it was when they handed it to me…”
Peace.

I think this pretty much confirms they have no idea what the hell is going on.

The thing about that is that it's all vague, superficial nonsense. It's about "clean air and clean water". Well what exactly do you want? How do you propose we improve air and water quality? "It's about safety for women." Well, fantastic, I'm in favour of that, how would you like to further this cause? "It’s about making a positive change in our communities." Yeah, okay, that just doesn't mean anything.

WRT the buget bill, okay, I get the Indian Act issue - the fear is that the Aboriginal Affairs minister can call a meeting with 5 people from a band and thereby dispossess them of their land. That about right? Well, first, any such activity is subject to judicial review, so that'd be a tough one to explain to a hearing judge. But second, fair enough. Maybe that language should be changed. I think I get what the government is trying to address there - it's very difficult to get enough of the eligible voters together to pass a measure under the old system. But maybe this swings the pendulum too far the other way. Would a quorum provision that requires at least 10% of band members to be present at the meeting and casting votes satisfy everyone?

Clearly it wasn't me as some members of the board here have me strapping rocket boosters on the side of my car and pasting feces encrusted spikes all over the front bumper and hood of my car, while heading through the blockade at 500 miles an hour while throwing Styrofoam hamburger containers and hand grenades out of the window of my car.

What she did was dangerous and a little silly.

Going to watch that again, but I didn't see a cop in sight. I was pretty focused on the driver and protesters though, so may have missed seeing them.

"You're going to kill someone! Might as well just call you murderer!"

Okay, well, then, move. She's driving slowly enough. That said I expect another such incident at some later date to involve some rig pig's window being smashed, and boom, there's your violent incident. EDIT: As Duffman says.

They are protesting against the government, so why don't they focus on obstructing them instead of random citizens whose support they are looking for.

All they are doing now is pi$$ing people off.

Those facebook comments on the pic are quite the read. I get a good laugh when stupid people tell other stupid people to "get educated".

I judge people like that quite aggressively. It's a character flaw.

Really they don't have a right to stop vehicles on a major highway peacefull protest or not, and demanding that a driver stop their vehicle in the middle of a mob is not going to happen.

Its almost like this protest isn't about educating and informing, they want someone to get so frustrated that they throw the first punch or run over the first native.

Me neither. There is the risk of property damage (someone hitting my car with a rock) which I see as not at all unlikely. There is the risk of physical harm (someone smashing my driver's window and a bunch of people hauling me out of my car) which I see as unlikely but not worth the remote risk. There is the possibility of someone getting hurt and me getting into a legal snafu, both in terms of negligent driving under the MVA / Crim code and civil liability, which would cost a lot of money and be a real headache. Just not worth it. I doubt this woman really thought it through.

Plus I drive a crossover, not a truck, so there's that.

Why don't we all organize a 'blockade' to the road leading into the parking lot of the Grey Eagle Casino and see how well we get treated by the CPS or RCMP? At least if our blockade is in specific protest to all the 'Idle No More' blockades then at least our message is more specific and targeted!

I don't think there would be civil liability or even legal liability concerning someone getting hurt at an illegal blockade of a high way.

The Police really needed to send a signal and enforce the law properly
