Doctors aren't really supposed to treat family members, unless AB rules are somehow different.

They are not direct family members, i.e blood relatives. One is married to a cousin, the other is common law to an aunt.
edit: There is no way I would let blood relative inspect my junk... that would seem so wrong, lol.

What was the story with Paula Findlay's father? I caught only the smallest snippet on the tail end of the news tonight.

The fantasy that we don't have a multi-tier health care system is ridiculous. How much does the gov't pay for dental or optometry or physio or the vast majority of mental health care? Nothing. These are all health care providers.
Until we acknowledge the system we have and actually try to find the best delivery method we will never be able to fix the legitimate problems in the system. The deniers have far too much influence on the policy makers because, as a rule, they are seniors and they vote and they are scared they won't be able to afford care.

I was always confused about why this was controversial. For the last 15 years or so my employers have alway supplied on site private flu vaccinations.
"What was the story with Paula Findlay's father? I caught only the smallest snippet on the tail end of the news tonight."
I just caught a bit of it too, but I believe he is a physician who made arrangements to get his daughter an MRI on the same day as whatever injury she had occurred. Of course he said no one was bumped to allow his daughter first access but to me something like that is far more aggregious than the Flames thing which I thought was normal (because I've always been supplied with private flu shot clinics).

It was because there was a shortage of vaccine at the time and many experts were saying it was critical to get high risk people vaccinated first. They developed priority list and it was bad optics because while some of the people high on the list had to wait, the Flames were able to get theirs.
The whole H1N1 thing was ridiculous though.

"Thorne says his own daughter was vaccinated at Flames clinic. But his wife wasn't because she doesn't believe in vaccinations."
Jeeze, how can a doctor's wife not believe in vaccinations.
Anyways, always felt it was blown out of proportion. We were originally led to believe that their was enough vaccinations for everyone and the only reason they wanted the elderly first was because of the risks (and it would be harder standing in longer lines than necessary for them). Sure the Flames got special treatment but since the nurses administering the shots were volunteering they didn't really affect anyone in anyway - had there been enough shots like we were led to believe.
From the way some made it sound at the time, Iginla and friends found a clinic, jumped some grandpas and beat them with their own canes to get their spots in the line.

Maybe I was misremember, but I thought at the time the Flames got it the AHS was still saying their was enough for everyone. There just wasn't enough man power to administer it all at once. And then it came out that their was shortage and the Flames had jumped a couple days previously.
I very easily could be wrong.

As far as the Flames' physician goes, why would he think the Flames would be hassled by fans? The casual fan or Calgarian, unless it was Iginla would be hard pressed to recognize a member of the Flames out of uniform. I have seen Jarome frequenting Starbuck's from time to time and he hasn't been bothered by anyone. I suppose if the purpose was to vaccinate the entire Flames team and families, all at the same time, only then might it have caused some disruption at a public clinic with people getting star struck and wanting autographs.

Thorne is a huge beauty.
AHS is a disaster and like previous comments above, I think this got blown way out of proportion.

I agree, unless it is Iginla I don't think anyone would reconize any of them. That is just a stupid excuse. Other than Iginla the only other person I may recognoze out of uniform is maybe Kipper.
That is just one more example of how over rated all of these guys are. The excuse is that they would be mobed? BS

Now the doctor may have a point if they all came in on a bus that said CALGARY FLAMES , but does any one realy think that if Lee Stempniak (or insert most flames here) walked in the place any one would know him or even give a ####?

I suppose this brings into question what exactly the definition of queue jumping is. A professional athlete with a knee injury could have his entire career derailed without prompt care - should he be placed in waiting while a bunch of retired 70 year olds complaining about a lifetime of aches&pain clog up the system?
As a net benefit to society, do we want a queue ordered by "first come first served" or an ordering determined by medical acuity/societal impact?

Speaking as someone who couldn't get the vaccine due to priority and then got H1N1, I can say that H1N1 wasn't ridiculous. It wasn't much fun having it.

Yes, but it was far from the apocalypse the media made it out to be. The overwhelmingly vast majority of people who got it were sick for a few days and were fine.
The media fear was not needed.

Maybe not Lee Stempniak, but Kipper, Tangs, Cammy, Glencross, Olli,
Jarome?
Most importantly, this is a situation where they would have been stuck in line with families. See how long you can keep a crowd of kids away from Jarome Iginla.

I wonder how the Flames players can even function, they all must have personal assistants and bodyguards to help keep the Bieberesque mobs away.
Sorry a little extra attention is the price you have to pay for fame, and the $$$ you earn. Don't like it, don't become a pro player. (or go play in LA)

You should have seen the fear mongering around here. Some people were calling others potential murderers for choosing not to get the vaccine.

The extra healthcare is the a perk just like the attention is the price.
The company is willing to pay for their employees and AHS is stupid enough to not realize the PR that will follow.
