I've seen this pro gun asshat on Piers Morgan twice and each time these stats are brought up he starts rambling on about how violent crime has gone up. It's amazing
Piers.... there is 35 gun related deaths in Britain, 0 in Japan and X in Australia, compared to 35,000 in America per year. Don't tell me gun control doesn't work.
Lottz.... But go look up how much violent crime has gone up in those countries.

It's another area where the republicans are being confronted with that whole "facts" thing that seems to get in their way so much.
The republican brand is getting thrown off the cliff by their lack of backbone when dealing with the crazies in their party. There was a poll by CNN that showed that 53% of the population thinks they're too extreme. That basically means no major election wins here on out, and that's how it should be.
There was a guy on Morning Joe's show on Friday, a republican congressman from Kansas, I think it was John Hulescamp or something like that, and from seeing what he was saying (No tax increases + No restrictions on guns period), I feel sorry for John Boehner for having to deal with these guys. I'm sure he can see that his party is becoming irrelevant and completely out of step with the vast majority of America, and cannot convince them to do anything.
Tim Huehlskamp or something. He's a first or second term guy in an extremely rural district. You're just not going to get anything else out of that sort of set up here.

The current administration had little will/power to stop the gun show loophole however, given the latest massacre; there is more pressure to close it. The loop hole is any “occasional” private gun dealers may sell guns without background checks and or perform recordkeeping on the sale transaction to provide purchaser information.
Gun show dealers although private but certainly not small time were criticized by using the loophole to avoid any paper trail. It was a concerned that the American gun shows were a major source for illegal firearm trafficker within the USA and abroad. Whenever there is any movement to tackle the loophole, the membership gun clubs such as the NRA, responded with how the Second Amendment rights is being threatened.
The Gun Show Loophole Act of 2009 is still a pending legislation "floating" and making its round from the Senate to the House Commitee to the Homeland security ever since it was introduced. Every group is passing the buck.

Speaking of Piers, the pro-gun fanatics (and I mean the true fanatics, not a guy who just wants to have a rifle to hunt) are trying to get him deported, because of how outspoken he's been on the whole gun issue since Newtown. Idiots.

Destroy the first amendment to preserve the second!
A Prof. claims that the Newtown tragedy didn't happen as it was reported by the media. On Jan. 8, Radar Online reported that a Florida Atlantic University communications professor named James Tracy has suggested that the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School last month was actually a planned hoax put in to play by the Obama administration
.
"As documents relating to the Sandy Hook shooting continue to be assessed and interpreted by independent researchers, there is a growing awareness that the media coverage of the massacre of 26 children and adults was intended primarily for public consumption to further larger political ends," Prof. Tracy wrote on his blog, memoryholeblog.com.
The Prof. who claimed Newtown didn't happen the way that people believe it did says that the Obama administration planned the hoax to sway people's opinions about gun control -- a hot topic in today's society. Tracy feels that there was a "political agenda" behind the shooting and he urges people to look at the event more critically.
"While it sounds like an outrageous claim, one is left to inquire whether the Sandy Hook shooting ever took place -- at least in the way law enforcement authorities and the nation's news media have described," Prof. Tracy added. While some people are calling the professor "crazy," others are actually agreeing with him.
Just because someones a professor dosen't make him smart or credible.
These conspiracy theories are popping up all the time because a segment of the population doesn't trust the govenrment and reads to much Tom Clancy while watching X-Files.
But these idiots don't have the guts to face the families of the victims.
Pretty disgusting stuff
Its the same ######ed counter logic as the stuff that the 9/11 truthers used.

And in the U.S. just because something is called a University, doesn't really make it one.
I agree that it should be read. The stories were pretty sanitized, but people should know what these weapons do and what they are designed for. They are designed to destroy, not simply defend.

No assault rifle, none dead.
Obviously a poor shot. You can do a lot of damage with a 9mm pistol and several 15 round clips.
Two people were shot dead and a teenager was critically wounded Tuesday night outside a technical college in eastern Kentucky, officials say.
The shooting happened about 4:30 p.m. in a parking lot at Hazard Community and Technical College, the school's evening coordinator told the Associated Press.
Quote:
Two people surrendered to the Kentucky State Police in Hazard and were held for local police, a spokesman told the Lexington Herald-Leader. One was believed to be gunman, WYMT says.
The two-building school was briefly locked down. The spring semester began Monday.
