Default Home Water Softener

Is it relatively easy to have a whole home water softener installed on an existing home that has never had a water softener installed on it before? Anyone had this done before that could enlighten me on cost of install for something like this?

Thanks,
-FoB.

a lot will deopend on your abilities as a plumber.

i opted to have mine installed by a plumber (cash deal) as it required some routing of the pex pipes.

otherwise, the install seemed straightforward

Thanks!

A rough idea on cost of install for you?

Also, I have the option of going through the builder for this (new construction) but the cost is $2200.

Doing some basic research on lowes/home depot website it looks like I can get one of the higher end water softener units for less than $1000. I am thinking with install it should be well worth installing after the fact. Just want to make sure it is not a big deal to install a water softener on a home without an existing unit.

I got mine done by this company http://www.thewaterman.ca/water_solu....html#logix268

He rerouted the kitchen cold and fridge water so that they are not softwater. Total price was $1500. This was before my basement was developed so it was easy access.

i'd like to think the install was ~$250 or less. I am sure you could buy a top notch softner and have it installed for less than $2,200.

I did this about 2 years ago. My advice is buy a Kenmore through Sears. They go on sale for 50% or more quite often. Keep checking their flyer. I got a 5 person rated one for about $700.

Then get a plumber, I know a great guy just PM.

He charge $200 since it was as easy as you can get. Trust me, easy to him is a weekend to me.

It can go up from there to a max of $500 I think.

Do yourself a favor and get a quote. Then check Sears, that should give you a ballpark.

Got our builder to rough it in, then bought a Kenmore, then did it myself. Recommend using sharkbite fittings if doing it your self as you otherwise have to solder a brass fitting to a copper fitting which is a colossal pain, (tried that first but couldn't get it to flow properly, so I undid it and went to the Sharkbite (home depot).

Overall I spent about $1000 for the softener, fittings and a length of pex. Once I got the sharkbites it was about a two hour project including unpacking and programming the softener.

Full disclosure, I had done his once before although that application was all copper, so the soldering went much smoother. I am fairly handy, but not extremely so.
