I'm not a huge poker player but yeah that always happens with any sort of game or sport in a movie. They dumb it down or explain things way too much. Personally I loved those scenes, it was great to see that in a Bond movie instead of another balls out action scene but when Mathias is explaining what a tell is I was cringing. People generally know what bluffing or a tell is in poker, you don't have to explain it two or three times.

Small pet peeve in what was my favourite Bond movie though.

I didn't think the poker scenes were bad enough to take me out of the movie. If it was like real poker no one would be talking and everyone would be clicking their chips together.

and/or look like this..

I dont think it was their intent to have an accurate looking poker game. I think their intent was to have a cool looking poker game. And it was cool, so I'm ok with it.

I agree with the part about explainging the bluff tho thats kind of annoying. I think its safe to assume anyone wathcing a bond movie generally knows what a bluff is.

Pretty crazy that Skyfall has gone over the billion dollar mark worldwide when neither Quantum of Solace or Casino Royale even hit the 600 million dollar mark.

I imagine the gap between Skyfall and the next Bond movie will be a lot smaller than this last one.

That gap was due to Craig's scheduling conflicts and mgm's bankruptcy. Shouldn't be an issue going forward.

Saw Skyfall when it first came out and thought it was maybe a top 5 Bond film for me personally, which I did not expect.
My wife had not seen it so I saw it so I went again with her last night and was once again equally entertained with Skyfall.
That is the tell tale sign of a great movie if you see it again and it holds your interest.
Also the seats were surprisingly about 70% full.
Now #13 for all-time worldwide box office numbers probably #10 by next week.

I would love to see a reboot of OHMSS. That has to get redone with Craig.

That one has Bond fall in love and get married. It looked pretty apparent after Casino Royale that Bond wouldn't be falling in love again anytime soon.

Man, me too. What a great film. I hope David Fincher comes back too, his style was all over the first film. I hope those two and Bond films are all Craig does for the next couple years.

I don't think there will be any sequels for that series unfortunately, especially with Fincher as the director. It cost too much to make, and didn't fare all that well at the box office for it to warrant a sequel. That and most people consider the first one the best and most commercial entry in the series, so it would be too risky for the studio to film the last two sequels. And of course Fincher would have to put a lot of time into filming both movies, something that probably won't be happening with all the other movies he is currently working on.

Date is set for Summer 2014 as of right now.

Despite rumours he's out, it seems the filmmaker is still very much developing the middle chapter in the Millennium trilogy. He tells the site "Well, [I'm] trying to figure out a sequel to 'Dragon Tattoo.' We’ve got to be able to make it our own thing." Reports last week about the delay confirmed that Steve Zaillian was still working on the script.

I think you're wrong on all accounts. As recently as August Fincher has expressed interest in doing them and Sony plans do to the final two back-to -back.

Now, who knows how this will all play out, it's taken a decade for Sin City to maybe have number two come out... But I think you're pretty off base with that post, on everything.

While it wasn't a huge hit, it still made twice its budget worldwide and passed the 100 million mark domestically. Far from a flop.

It's pretty much in pre-development hell right now. I just don't see it ever being released in theaters. Sequels like this are usually doomed to failure with such large gaps in between.

Right now Fincher is trying to start up 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, and who knows how long that will take to finish. Then he has a few other projects in development, that could come before TGHPWF. By then it will be 2014 or 2015, and any buzz the series had going for it will be long gone.

I for one would put even money on the line that this sequel (as it stands now) will never be developed.

Oh and that article is from all the way back in August. Has there been any news about it being made since then? Nope nadda. The only more recent news I can find is all the way back in August as well where it says Sony and Fincher are no longer on good terms, and it is unlikely he will be working with them any longer. Which actually means no Dragon Tattoo sequel, no Cleopatra, and probably no 20,000 Leagues at least at Sony.

Oh and the usual rate to make back a production budget is 2-3 times your budget. Dragon Tattoo cost 90, and only made back 230, so it's likely it barely made a profit in theaters. And with all the marketing and advertising that surrounded the movie, I am sure it's actual budget was pretty high.

I liked the movie too, but realistically I don't see much chance in a David Fincher sequel ever being made. Not saying another studio won't buy the rights and give it a smaller budget, but in its current form it's difficult to see it getting made any time soon.

So I finally watched this tonight, and it's definitely up there in my favourite Bond films. Firstly, hands down its the best looking Bond movie ever. I like the more subdued plot and Bardem was of course awesome.

One comment though on some discussion in this thread. I recently watched OHMSS because I heard how underrated and actually pretty good it was. That movie is awful, just awful. Telly Savales is bad, George Lazenby has the personality of a board and the horrible skiing scenes just go on FOREVER. It's probably my least favourite Bond, but I haven't watched the Dalton ones in a long time.

As far as Skyfall, it goes into the Top 5 which, in no particular order, are

Dr. No
From Russia with Love
Casino Royale
You Only Live Twice
Skyfall

The acting in OHMSS is awful, but I really liked the story and felt that if Connery didn't leave the character and was in this movie, it'd be up there with Goldfinger and Dr. No as one of the best ever.
