It doesn't change the fact that Rob Ryan is a terrible DC.

In the final 7 games of the regular season, the Cowboys committed a staggering 9 personal fouls on defense. As personal fouls go in the NFL, there are always going to be a few that are accidental, or simply bad calls by officials with itchy trigger fingers trying to protect QBs or defenseless receivers. In fairness to the Cowboys, 3 of those 9 personal fouls were of that variety.

However, the remaining 6 were absolutely stupid penalties, which we’ll review here:

Rob Ryan’s career coaching resume:

Compare that with the rest of the defensive coordinators around the league. Also, none of those above teams that Ryan coordinated had a winning record.

The lack of pass rush in the Broncos game against the Ravens I think drives home the point that Broncos need a strong defensive tackle that can create havoc up the middle. They got pressure on the ends, but appear a bit weak in the inside.

Wolfe had a good rookie season, but he was invisible Saturday. They need a couple more guys to compliment him.

Also, depth in the defensive backfield. Did Quinton Carter get hurt in camp? He was pretty good last year at safety and I don't remember ever seeing him in a game this year. Chris Harris has been a great surprise, but with Champ getting older and Porter a huge question mark to resume his career, the Broncos are awfully thin on the corner.

They also need another receiver. Andre Caldwell was a bust and Matt Willis isn't good enough at #4.

Oh, and they'll probably need a new offensive coordinator.

I love seeing pictures like this - 2 great players quietly spending a moment after all the hub-bub has passed.

Quote:
Then word came from a Ravens security man that waiting in the locker room was the vanquished Peyton Manning, who wanted to see him. And Lewis very much wanted to see Manning. As NFL Network technical people fiddled with the connection, seconds passed. Patience got thin.
"I'm missing a great warrior right now," Lewis said to no one, a sense of urgency in his voice.
After eight minutes, the interview was over and Lewis was unhooked and he walked back into the nearly deserted Ravens locker room. There was Manning, waiting in a charcoal suit with his wife, Ashley, and their 21-month-old son, Marshall. Hugs all around.
Ashley Manning, hugging Lewis, said: "I'm not very happy, but I'm happy for you,'' and she sounded like she meant it.
Peyton and Lewis talked quietly, out of earshot, for four minutes. It's right that no one would hear it. Manning had a sad smile most of the time, and Lewis a wide one.

Kenny Britt needs new friends....

A spokesman for Tennessee Titans wideout Kenny Britt says the receiver's only involvement in the stabbing incident in Jersey City early Sunday was taking his injured friend to the hospital.

CFL News (@CFL_News) tweeted at 6:27 PM on Mon, Jan 14, 2013:
Even worse for #Alouettes fans, Trestman is one of two finalists for the #Bears job. Bevell of #Seahawks the other finalist. #CFL

@AdamSchefter: So Cardinals to interview Mike McCoy again, Eagles to interview Gus Bradley again, Bears to interview Marc Trestman and Darrell Bevell again

So is there a chance Arians stays as the Colts OC next season? I know Telesco is a Colts guy so he might want to bring him there but it seems like he is out of the running for most other HC jobs?

Im actually pulling for Marc Trestman. On day one when the news came out I figured he was a good coach but likely wouldnt be able to compete with McCoy, Arians or any other hot commodity OC.
Now that he has made it to the finals, I'd really be interested to see what he can do with Chicago

There is a chance, but he is still one of the 3 finalists for the chicago gig so he isn't out of the woods yet

No link (it was reported on the radio) McCoy is going to be the next Chargers head coach.

Or give the ones they have an opportunity at an expanded role. Sans the broken leg of course.

I'm calling it now. Jack Del Rio will be the next coach of the Oakland Raiders.

I was thinking about the current iteration of mobile option QBs - Kaepernick, Wilson, Griffin III, Newton (even Vick) - they are all in the NFC. I suppose that is just chancebut it makes me wonder if the pendulum is swinging back to the NFC and we will see another number of years with the NFC having the stronger group of teams?

Pendulum swung back to the NFC about 4 or 5 years ago, IMO. AFC has only won one Super Bowl in the last five years.

How are those QBs going to stay healthy?
