I'm pretty sure Sobey's carries that. That's not that hard of a sauce to find...

They sell sauce in 16 oz., 20 oz, and 32 oz. quantities. Why those quantities you ask? Because those are their drink cup sizes. Yep thats right... they will fill up a drink cup of sauce for you. A 16 oz cup will cost you $1.69 and 20 oz. will cost $1.99. I forget what the 32 oz. cup cost.
Needless to say, at those prices I bought some sauce. Now I just have to buy a couple of condiment squeeze bottles from Dollarama to put it in.
|
That's a bit strange that they put it in drink cups. There used to be dedicated containers. But I'm glad you got some sauce! Try it on your eggs!

Why are home-made El Paso Tacos 100% better than Taco Time and Taco Bell?

3) Did you eat a lot of tacos?

Yes I did! As staff we got 50% off so things were actually reasonably priced. I think Taco Time is great but just outrageously expensive except for Taco Tuesday. A burrito from there should not cost $5-6.
A couple of my favourite things to order were the Veggie burrito with Ranch dressing instead of sour cream; also, they used to have these things called Beef Wrappers, regular price was $1.19 so I think I paid 60 cents. They were a soft shell, mexican rice, ranch, beef, lettuce and pico de gallo. I ate 2 or 3 of those a shift, easy.

4) Did the manager every say something like this to you: "There's Work Time, Play Time, and Taco Time"?
|
My manager was a middle aged Korean man and he didn't crack a lot of jokes. But this was definitely said a time or two amongst me and my co-workers.

5) This is a two-part question:
a) Say you were at work the morning after getting it on with a lady, and you were telling your colleagues about it, were you allowed to say "It was going great, really hot and heavy, so I made my move and went South Of The Border...", or was that slogan banned at Taco Time?
b) If it was banned, would you say (the morning after getting it on with a lady) "it was going great, really hot and heavy, so I decided it was Taco Time"?
|
Hahaha. I think these are new ones.

Oh man...That sauce is delicious and apparently really cheap. Man I'm going to feel like a weirdo leaving the food court mall with 2 giant drinks full of hot sauce.

Taco Bell is just garbage, their "meat filling" comes in a paste form and can hardly be considered real beef.
Taco Time is 100 x better than the Bell, that could be because I worked there and I'm biased, but I just think Taco Bell is disgusting. At least Taco Time has fresh veggies and everything's made in store (or at least it was, 9 years ago).
Homemade tacos can be great or not so great. I've never been able to get my beef at home to the same consistency and taste as the taco time beef, and I made that beef twice a week for a year. But it typically comes down to veggie quality, and it's a lot easier to get fresh veggies for home use than to keep veggies fresh long-term on a restaurant production line.

I think the problem with Taco Bell/ Taco Time, is they use such bland seasoning on the beef. A taco should be zesty, before you add salsa.

In terms of fast Mexican food, there is nothing close to Del Taco.

OKC also has Taco Bueno....which should be renamed Taco Sucko.

Maybe a bit late to this, but I was watching Food Network and one of the items being made was something called "salsa roja" that was finely pureed and bore a resemblance to burrito sauces in use. Looked pretty simple to make. The only "exotic" ingredient were the tomatillos, which I have seen around, but can't remember where.

Not sure why, but I like the beef at tacotime,
Hey Malcolmk14 is there anything special tacotime does to cook that beef the way they have it?

What locations have you been able to do this at?
I went to the taco time on 64th ave nw and the lady looked at me like I had a second head. She then tried to sell me a 100ml clear cup of the sauce for 4.69!

Honestly it is just a magical and mysterious mixture of straight up ground beef and the Taco Time taco seasoning mix. I made it tons of times there in the restaurant and that's literally all there is to it. I've tried to duplicate it at home but I just can't get the mix right. I have no idea why.

Co-Op has Tomatillos, probably Superstore and Safeway as well. Unlike tomatoes and just about everything else, they're actually easy to grow in Calgary.
