Exactly. But i'd read into it a bit more. I mean, if he wants to remain a Flame why hasn't he signed a contract extension yet? Surely the Flames have offered him one, why let this become the distraction its about to be. And you'd have to think the Flames offered him market value, knowing he sells tickets. So the only viable reason i can see for no extension yet is that Jarome actually isn't sure he wants to remain here.
I'd say he's gone for sure next year. The only question now is whether he leaves as a UFA or is traded. If the Flames are a bubble team or worse at the deadline, he's gone in a trade. if the Flames are comfortably in the top 8 at the deadline he stays for the rest of this year.
Jarome wants to win a Cup, he won't stay here. Thats why there is no contract.

They aren't allowed to speak to him until the CBA is ratified by both parties.

Sure. But this issue was just as relevant back in September under the old CBA. Its simply not in the Flames interest at all to let this drag into his last season (whether it started back then or now). Iginla has to be the one refusing to sign.

They were allowed to speak to him all summer. The whole year Ken King and company said that getting an extension to Iggy was there #1 priority. Instead all we got was a comment from Conroy saying that Iggy wanted to see how the new coach and players would be.

Iginla isn't going to fetch us much now. So why trade him? It's obvious this team wants to be a middle of the pack team.
If we where going to trade him, that time passed 3-4 years ago whenee could have gotten a kings ransom. To trade him now for the sake if trading him would be a disgrace. Iginla brings a lot to this organization and city.

They should trade him if he has not signed an extension by the deadline. It's not like the flames automaticaly get to keep Iggy if he is not traded. Iggy still has the choice to walk away in the summer. My bet is if he has not signed by the deadline he would be walking.

Ironically, if we are a playoff team this year - i think he will walk after the season as a UFA. And leave on a good note.
If we are not a playoff team at the deadline, he will consent to a trade.
Either way, this is his final season as a Flame. Make sure you enjoy it.

I don't think you can assume anything about Iginla's intentions based on his not signing an extension yet. He's been through this before, and the last time they came out of the lock-out with a rollback on player salaries. Signing a contract knowing that it coud be reduced significantly within months of signing it is risky, especially if he's already thinking about giving another hometown discount. I think he signs an extension with Calgary. Jarome asking to be traded to a contender for a cup run is always a possibility, but if he does it, I think it will be at the end of his career, and that's still years away.

In this case "all summer" was April to ~Sept. 15th. Wait and see. I expect Iggy will sign an extension before next season. His roots are pretty deep in Calgary.

Ugg Do not want! Enough of the coach killer, time to move on. I want a young team that plays both ends of the rink.

Would put a huge tarnish on Iginla IMO if he was content to just play out his career in Calgary. I mean no desire to win a CUP? I don't believe this is true. I think he looks at his options as the season progresses. Allows himself to be traded and gets the Flames the best return while still giving himself a legit shot at a CUP.
I'd be disappointed if he did not. Disappointed in him and for him.
