So the Raps go into overtime after being up 13 fairly late in the fourth.
I have no idea what Casey's doing, but he certainly seems over his head.

Yeah, I hate the small ball lineup. Casey never seems to manage the minutes so that the guys who need to be on the floor are rested down the stretch in the fourth. But in theory I like Calderon starting and Lowry finishing, at least for now.

The pick and roll defence was terrible late in the game. I dont know what Johmson was doing there with it. It was minor league terrible.
However it was matched in terms of minor league futility with the offensive strategy of one dribble inside the three point line and then force a pass to a teammate for a contested three that was never made. I get the strategy of running the clock down, but you have to make plays and score while doing it. Try moving the ball around like you did for the first 44 minutes and see what happens.

The only downside to how well they're playing right now is obviously it hurts Bargnani's trade value even more. About time Ed Davis gets to see some starts.

Toronto played fairly well today. Anderson came off the bench white hot. Everyone on the loor knew he wasnt going to miss in the second quarter - everyone except derozan that is.
Same thing after the break. Derozan gets the ball, passing stops, drives into coverage for low percentage shots. OKC ran away in the 3rd quarter, but the raptors had a shot at this. Someone needs to smarten derozan up. Missing 12 of 16 shots when you have teammates on a roll is unacceptable

Nothing of note lately and still just waiting for January 15th and beyond. Only real thing of interest this year is who they trade and when and who for. Other than that they are just another of the many mediocre sports teams who seem lost in the wilderness. Not only lost but clueless on how to get out of their predicament.

Ideally Gasol would go to the Timberwolves. Even though I feel like he'd produce better than both Jose and Bargnani combined. The Raptors should really be rebuilding and have no use for Gasol. The Timberwolves however, want a frontcourt of Love and Gasol.
I don't think you can go by in the NBA with a core of Derozan, Valancuinas, Gasol, and Lowry. It's simply not good enough to contend. Nowadays you need at least 2-3 stars and Gasol has not played like a star recently I doubt Derozan and Lowry will ever be a star.

Nope.
And I can't see Minnesota doing it as well.
Seems like a good way to finish 8/9th for the next two years and out in the first round of play-offs.
If there is a 3 way deal with those teams I would think Minnesota would want Gasoline and Toronto should get Williams +.
Great deal for the Lakers though I imagine they would do it in a heartbeat.

Why would Minnesota do that though? I would think they would need another piece to consider it.

Calderon's value is so high right now the Raptors would be foolish the package him with Bargnani, who's value couldn't be lower at the moment. Trade em both seperately, not together, so you don't bring down your potential return for Calderon by tying him to Bargnani.

Considering Bargnani is still out for another month or more they don't have a choice. Well at least they don't if they want to do a deal on the 15th or soon thereafter.

Burke getting fired today by MLSE could be bad news for Raptors fans. IF he got canned for not wanting to pay a high price for Luongo's killer contract. Imagine if they are also then saying to BC --go out and get us some name guys to market--sacrifice picks/ prospects/whatever just get it done or out you go to.
Scary stuff.

The Raptors are reportedly in the running to acquire Rudy Gay. I'll be pretty pissed if they mortgage a lot of assets just to get him. Gay is a nice player, but if it means giving up Ed Davis I don't think it's worth it.

Exactly I even read some crazy one today where it was Jose, Davis, Ross and future picks for Gay. I was just hoping they could play out the year. Tank for Wiggens. Say goodbye to BC.
It could go from bad to worse.

Yes, give up an expiring contract (meaningless to Toronto), two bright young pieces (cause who needs those?) and likely lottery picks for a guy who more or less leaves you right where you are at present and weakened in the future. Unless accumulating picks is the play to ensure you get Wiggins in 2014 (by say offering 10 first round picks for the #1 overall pick), don't do something so obviously stupid.

I would be incredibly disappointed if we acquired Gay for a package of Davis, Calderon and Ross (or something similar). Gay's salary is massive, and it would only make us marginally better right now, and likely worse in a couple years. I really hope this is just a rumor and nothing more.

A little off topic, but what bothers me about the Burke firing is the speculation that he wasn't a "company man" type - basically a politician. Personally, I don't think he deserved to be fired, simply because he wasn't given enough time. In a hardass market like Toronto, they needed a guy to do like Burke to do things his way and at times, set the media straight. Nonis I don't believe is the guy for the job because he rubs me as the guy who'll crack under pressure - whether from media or upper management.
Leading to the Raptors, surely Colangelo has kept his job because he is a company man, based on Burke getting the quick hook. But from Anselmi speaking, I really think he's gone at the end of the season. There was no vote of confidence in him, and from the sounds of it he's finished at seasons end.
As for this proposed deal above, I have no problem whatsoever bringing in Gay for Davis and Calderon, as long as Gay has years left on his contract. I just hope there's a secondary deal to get value for Bargnani from another team. Those who say Bargnani has no value are out to lunch. GM's will always lick their chops to unlock the potential in Bargnani (though he'll likely never push himself). Ross to me, is a flash in the pan. I really like what he's looked like these past few games, but if he's included in the package for a guy like Gay, no problem. I'm not sure he can consistently create his own shot, and even though he's young, he seems undersized, much like DeRozan. I think after all these rebuilding years have passed, what we're starting to see is you can't rebuild your team with young talent by losing and losing. Who are the centrepieces on the team? Perhaps Valanciunas, and if you make this deal, Gay. The team can't develop Jonas in a losing enviornment among so-so talents. That strategy only works if you get a top pick and draft a superstar. Gay, Valanciunas are two good pieces to build a winning franchise, combined with getting a solid C though trade, could yield a good core to win even in the future. As for a draft pick, I don't think any 1st rounders will be able to be dealt until the conditional Lowry pick is settled.

With the Burke firing you would hope this means the writing is on the wall for Colangelo but I fear that the Raptors might squeak into 8th based on the terribleness of the other teams in the East rather than anything good the Raptors do and this saving Colangelo's job.
He has shown that he has been as bad if not worse than Burke so hard to understand how he keeps his job after today's firing.

It scares me that he is going to make a trade in attempt to save his job. He should be sent packing ASAP.
