I predict that once I finally remember the Oilers hired some guy named Ralph Krueger to be their head coach, he'll get fired.
On the radio yesterday, they were saying that in a short season, there will be one team who surprises everyone by missing the playoffs, and one team who surprises everyone by making the playoffs.
I'm going to pick the Wings as the team who misses for the first time in John Tavares' lifetime; and the Leafs as the team who makes it for the first time in the lifetime of some kid who was conceived on the Red Mile.

Cammalleri leads the Flames in goals and points.
Stajan has a decent season playing with Hudler. Ends up as a regular in the line up and loses his goat status among most Flames fans.
Backlund disappoints though and gains that title.
Baertschi has an impressive but quiet rookie season. Fails to gain much attention from the league but shows promise, misses out on Calder consideration.
Flames have a reversal of fortune and end up securely in the top 10 in goals-for but can't keep the puck out of their own net and end up in the bottom half for goals-allowed.

OMG Robbie Shremp is going to be so awesome, we're building something special up here.
OMG Sam Gagner is going to be unbelievable we're building something special up here
OMG MPS is going to be an awesome first line player, we're building something special up here.
OMG did you see the video tape of Linus Omark's shootout goal, the guy is going to be unbelievable we're building something special up here.
OMG Tayler Hall, he's so dreamy, we're building something special up here.
The only thing that's special in Edmonton is their front office staff.
The uber prospects couldn't even make an AHL team special.
While Hall, Hopkins and Eberle are great players, until Yakapov shows that he's anything but a individual player and Schultz shows that he can actually perform in the NHL I remain unconvinced that the Oilers are anything but a large pile of poop with a few nice nuggets floating in the fertilizer

its not so much the oil will be good, but the flames will be that bad. it won't take much to beat the flames in the standings. Looking at the centre position roster - backlund is #1 - having to compete with jones and stajan - yikes.

Cammy played well at C last year. Cervenka is a question mark, and so is Tanguay. Pretty bold statement for so little known information.

Bernier, Hickey, sure. It's doubtful Toffoli is going anywhere. He's already on the spreadsheet and not with a question mark next to his name. I could totally see Sutter pitching Lombardi to get Iginla at the deadline though.

Plus with no Brent Sutter, at least according to many on this board, this team should be much more successful.
In all seriousness, if the Flames are relying on Tanguay at center and Cammy, they have some serious problems. The limited offensive skill that the Flames have combined with what is at best a mediocre defensive core means that Kipper will have to be out of this world good for the Flames to make the playoffs.

I am horrible at predictions... Flames go 7-14-3 to start effectively eliminating themselves from the playoffs.

If the Kings don't make that deal because of Toffoli that would seem odd to me.

It's hard to explain things to you because you don't pay attention to anyone else's point of view as much as your own. I'll give this one try to make it simple.
It would be shocking for the Kings to trade Toffoli for anyone. That was the point of my post. Bernier leaving is a no brainier. Hickey is way down the depth chart on defense so he could easily be traded. Toffoli has impressed the Kings right from the start and has progressed faster than expected. Management likes this kid a lot. Very slim to impossible chance they let him go.

Not sure what the point of this BS is but I actually would like to hear your opinion on this. Seems like you are the one ignoring others views and just wanting to hear your own.

Good response would have been nice to hear this with out the BS up above.
I certainly agree with the first two parts of your post and my issue isn't that Toffoli isn't good or should be traded wily nilly but if they are trading for Iginla that shows a willingness to put a lot of chips in for this year and as good as he looks he isn't such a surefire prospect that they should hold him back from getting Iginla.
I would say if they are willing to go after a guy like Iginla that is showing a willingness to give up a guy like Toffoli and that if that decision is made that they need a guy of Iginla's quality then giving up the prospect should be an easy decision.

I predict a breakout year for Backlund (hopefully playing with Sven) and a real rebound year from stajan.
I predict Kipper stands on his head and racks up the highlight reel
I predict Iggy tears it up and comes close to 30 - proving he hasn't lost too many steps
I predict Stempniak and Comeau are scratched and the young guys take their spots on the roster
Edit : I also think the Wideman signing will be huge while the Hudler signing will be meh at best
One can hope

none of these guys are proven NHL centres. Cervenka is 27 and hasn't played in the NHL, and T and C are veteran wingers. Thats more than enough information to smell trouble when asking one of them to be your #1 down the middle. The fact this management team can't trade for a legitimate #1 centre is, for me, the biggest head scratcher here. What gives?

I criticize management as much as anyone but the answer to what gives is as easy as any. Getting a #1 center is likely the hardest thing to do in hockey and you rarely get one by trading or signing one.

Agreed it is difficult, but not impossible. Good GMs get it done. Cliff Fletcher acquired Doug Gilmour twice via trade.

times are different now. back then it was easier to acquire star players. since the last lockout how many #1 centers have reached free agency? and how many have #1 centers been traded in that time frame?

Ugh, I forgot about Comeau. How lucky are we that he wanted a 1 year deal instead of the two Feaster wanted. What an ironic turn of events that was.
