Calgary surprises and finishes 2nd in the Northwest and 6th in the conference.
Vancouver wins the division but aren't the dominating team that they have been as they begin to slide.
Edmonton finishes last in the division 13th in the West and just miss the lottery pick. Kevin Lowe is seized by panic at the draft as the hockey news is no help, he drafts the guy that delivers pringles to the Mac's around the corner from his house. Edmonton fans drink the kool-aid from a fire hose and declare him the best prospect in hockey. They declare wait until next year, we're building something special up there. The Oilers change their team name to the Edmonton Specials and start using a short yellow bus on raod games.
Minnesota is a surprise as they take to the ice with very little chemistry and struggle.
Colorado is improved and scrape into the playoffs.
The LA kings make it to the finals but lose to the Rangers.

Flames finish fourth in division. Too much change for the team to find chemistry early, stumble out of the blocks and can never recover from.

My predictions in a short season Oilers and Canucks make playoffs, Flames do not.

Flames make the playoffs, get past the first round but get knocked out in the second round. A fully rested Kipper in a 50 game season has to mean good things.

I could definitely see the Kings repeating. They lost no one of any consequence from the team that bulldozed through the playoffs. They've also had an extra couple months to heal up any lingering injuries from their cup run.
I can certainly see the Flames making it into the playoffs on the strength of Kiprusoff's play. The entire season will be about 20 games shorter than his average workload and that means even if he played every game (which he won't) he'll be relatively fresh for the playoffs. The Flames have an opportunity to make some noise for sure.
My other fave team the Flyers could win the cup if Bryzgalov rebounds and they can acquire a stud d-man. I think they'll make a move trading some of their crazy forward depth to shore up the defense. Giroux will challenge Crosby/Malkin for the Art Ross.

Gotta think LA can do some damage with no Stanley Cup hangover to deal with. I guess it depends on Kopitars injury situation though.
A lot can happen in a shorten season so it's hard to predict.

I think the Flames finish 14th (only Columbus is worse) and 26th overall.
The Wild, Oilers, and Canucks all make the playoffs from our division.

I think the Flames are in serious trouble. Pretty much an entire roster who have not been doing anything. Plus with so many old slow starters that amplifies itself in a short season. Even Tom Erixon could be laughing at the Flames 3 months from now.
I expect Detroit to be good. Their better guys have been playing, they'll hit the ground running.

Season Predictions:
Leafs win the Stanley Cup (Everyone will remember this year as the year the Leafs won with only half a season so it doesn't really 'count')
Brodie gets 40 points or more.
Oh yeah, and OT- Broncos win the Superbowl.
 GFG!!

He predicted 50 games, 21 goals, 32 points. But yeah. I'm disappointed Cervenka is hurt. I was intrigued by his signing.

I hate to say this but I'm really hoping the team chemistry doesn't come together and we finish with a Top 3 lottery pick with a chance at either Jones or McKinnon. This season is already a wash and personally I don't care if we are first overall or dead last.

I sadly agree with the pessimists.
Flames miss the playoffs, Oilers, Canucks & Wild make it.
End of the season, we continue to complain about J Bo, Iginla haters get louder than ever and Kipper shows signs of slowing down.
On the bright side, some younger guys show signs of improvement and promise, but it'll be a few years before we can really get excited.
Penguins win the cup

Not to get all doom and gloom but bodog has the Flames at 50/1 to win the cup (third lowest) and 28/1 to win the conference (2 worst). The only teams ranked as less likely to win the cup are the Islanders and Blue Jackets.
Of course all of us pro rebuild guys are just negative nancy's with fluff arguments. Sorry, couldn't resist.
I always bet one team in the east and one in the west (plus a homer bet for Calgary). Last year it was LA and Buffalo (good payout on the first, no joy on the second).
This season I have St Louis and Philly. I think St Louis will pull a Chicago this season and finish their break out. I think Philly gets the goal tending this season and I liked the payout. I also added the Rangers as an insurance bet though. I think they have a real chance.
If it wasn't totally against my principle I would put 10 on the Oiler's. Their best guys have been playing and they are primed for a break out. 250 payout on a 10-dollar bet. But I couldn't do it.
