How would it be duller? They are still cycling are they not? They will all be on the same level again, just battling it out at slightly slower speeds perhaps. Does going 5% faster somehow make the sport more interesting? I'm going to be spending half my time looking at the scenery anyway.

Guys will still be doping this year - a bit absurd to think everyone will quit now.

You're never going get rid of doping entirely but it doesn't mean you don't stop trying. I'd much rather it be a 95% clean /5% doping scenario than the other way around.

The routes will have to change, long lead out breakaways will start to disappear, insane attacks on the slopes will die out

Still no quasi-respectable news site taking the other side (pooping on the "hearsay evidence") yet?

The apology Lance Armstrong will never give

http://sports.nationalpost.com/2012/...ll-never-give/

That being said, there are some things I’m sorry for. I’m sorry I ran Christophe Bassons, one of the sport’s truly noble men, out of the Tour in 1999 for daring to say that you couldn’t reach a top 10 at the Tour without doping. I’m sorry for attacking Frankie and Betsy Andreu for being in the hospital room with me in 1996 when I admitted to the doctors that I had used EPO, testosterone, growth hormone, cortisone and steroids. I’m sorry I sued our former soigneur, Emma O’Reilly, who wouldn’t back down from the truth. I’m sorry I called her a prostitute, and a drunk.

I’m sorry for sending a text message to Levi Leipheimer’s wife Odessa after I found out he was testifying that said, “Run, don’t walk.” I’m sorry I threatened to blackmail Greg LeMond. I’m sorry for painting Floyd Landis as an unbalanced lunatic, and for telling Tyler Hamilton in an Aspen restaurant that I would make his life a living hell. I’m sorry that the International Cycling Union is so warped that its president, Pat McQuaid, called Landis and Hamilton “scumbags” on Monday. I’m sorry he was following my lead.

There was supposed to be a good write up of this in some New York paper or magazine the other day, but I don't know much more than that. It was brought up on the radio as a great piece. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? Is that too vague? I'd like to read it if possible.

Perhaps this one? The NYT has done a ton of stuff on Lance, including a mia culpa from Michael Barry after he admitting doping.

The World According to Lance Armstrong

Quote:
Reported by Quentin McDermott and originally produced by Four Corners for the Australian Broadcast Corporation, this riveting documentary details the case against cyclist Lance Armstrong, who has been accused of employing illegal doping to enhance his athletic performances. McDermott reviews the origins of the suspicions of Armstrong’s usage of steroids, hormones, blood transfusions, and other performance enhancements, dating back to the 1990s.

I don't like this whole thing. They use the guy for years to build the sport around the world and they damn well knew he was doping and then they crucify him to make an example and put the sport right back into the spotlight when he retires.

Lance Armstrong may admit he doped:

https://www.nytimes.com/2013/01/05/s...ping.html?_r=0

Quote:
Lance Armstrong, who this fall was stripped of his seven Tour de France titles for doping and barred for life from competing in all Olympic sports, has told associates and antidoping officials that he is considering publicly admitting that he used banned performance-enhancing drugs and blood transfusions during his cycling career, according to several people with direct knowledge of the situation. He would do this, the people said, because he wants to persuade antidoping officials to restore his eligibility so he can resume his athletic career.

Great he wants to get clearance to cheat in another sport.

The sad thing is we'll never know if he was dominant because of better living through chemistry or because of the rare combination of genetics and determination.

Too little and way to late.

Still not sure his gigantic ego and complete disregard for the intelligence of the populace will allow him to admit he did anything wrong.....just deosnt seem to be in his DNA.

thing is though, EVERYONE in cycling dopes, or at least they did when Armstrong was winning. so really he's still on the same level as the rest of the field

Yeah, this I agree with but I don't have any sympathy for anyone using drugs to increase their performance. I mostly just ignored the Tour de France because of it's drug use and never could understand the adulation he received.
