Not the first, Jasper brewing company has had them for years. It think they have a spot in Banff as well and some pretty good beer.

I was just quoting what I was told by the guy who went through all of the red tape. From what I can tell, Jasper brewing company is still a brewery/pub, while Andrew Hilton is strictly just a liquor store.

Some good things coming out of Driftwood Brewery right now. The Fat Tug IPA is at the top of my list right now. Highly recommend it for any IPA lovers out there:

Perhaps liquor store, I don't know, but growlers have been around a long time in Canada. So maybe I am missing something? E.g. in Halifax - this was 7 or so years ago - two liquor stores had them. Mind you they were the liquor stores attached to breweries, but still....I have a hard time believing that claim.

Not sure how many Big Rock fans we have here, but a friend of mine recently brought me Warthog Ale for Christmas, and it was by far the best Big Rock beer I've had.

Don't know if anyone in Canada has had Mikkeller or not, but that beer is outstandingly tasty. I say that about pretty much all the beers I've had from their brewery (7 or so different kinds that I've had, though he makes many more).
A friend and I got to do an interview with him while he was in China a little while ago. Very friendly guy. Used to be a physics teacher before becoming one of the world's top brewers. They still only have 6 guys running the brewery too.

Also KWM and many Coops.
I'm not the biggest fan personally, but they receive a lot of attention so it is probably just personal preference on my side. I don't dislike, just haven't been wow'ed.

Also, heard a rumor that Red Racer IPA might be tough to find in Alberta for some reason in the future...maybe they are pulling out or having supply problems? Or it is a baseless rumor, I don't know...but if they become scarce, and Dogfish 90 minute IPA remain unobtainable I am a sad man.
There are other good IPA's but these were my favorite two easily.

I have a bottle of 'Black the Black' sitting on my desk that is left over from our Christmas party. It is a delicious beer and I will be keeping my eye out for their other brews.

Hoppy beer are my favourite, for sure. Not necessarily my butts favourite though.. spicey food and IPA go so good together, until the next day. Then it is a supreme battle of wills.
I recommend:
Or for something a bit lighter:
But my favourite sessional beer right now, something I can drink ten to twelve of in a night without doing a face plant is:

Although we did just get our first private liquor store in the history of the province.. and the LBS is fighting it right now because they are union and get paid 35 bucks a hour to work a cash register selling beer.

All good recommendations. Bought some Howe Sound over Christmas. Love the bottles. My Session beer is Mill Street Organic for the same reasons although the Growlers of Village Blonde could dethrone Organic if they become more widely available.
I also found this you would like. Not overly hoppy though.

All good choices, you have good taste GL!
My favorite Mill St. is the barleywine though...one of the better ones and it comes in a sweet bottle.
There is something very beautiful about a cold beer poured perfectly into a nice glass. Maybe thats just the addict in me talking.

I agree those are all great choices. Does anyone know where to get some Total Eclipse now? It's a seasonal brew and I keep looking but I think Willow Park has been out for ages. I pretty much gave up hope finding it until 2-3 months from now when I think they make it again.

I had Brew Dog's Sink the Bismarck in one of their pubs across the pond. A 42% IPA that's been cold distilled. Wowza.
Their barley wine is also very good.
Interestingly, Brew Dog is very controversial in the UK. Many beer drinkers hate that brewery because they find it gimmicky and don't respect 'tradition.'

Thanks I will have to give it a shot. I usually stop in Airdrie once a month on my way to the mountains and stock up. Few good shops there that have a great selection.
Also, CMPunk thanks very much for that website, it is very handy.
