Be careful discussing teams, other than the one you support, in an EPL thread. Locke gets upset when people do that and will accuse you of taking more joy in other teams losing than your own team winning. Bizarre stance considering much of his/her posting is anti-United and anti-England.

Anyway, way to go QPR! Love watching a giant like Chelsea get knocked down by a struggling team - almost as much as I like United winning! QPR's win will give them a bit of unexpected help in the avoiding relegation race.

Always entertaining to watch the drama at Chelski, the more the better.

As far as the Joe Cole stuff goes, this is what BBC says about it: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/20893195

I read on twitter it is contingent on him taking a wage reduction from £90k to £60 k per week.

Also, I was at Upton park yesterday and disagree that the early penalty was undeserved. The defender was all over Cole and practically taking his shirt off right in front of the ref. The Kane penalty was close so I can see why Norwich is unhappy, but it wasn't a hard foul more of a nick. Either way West Ham was well deserving of the result, controlled most of the play and was close to having at least a couple more goals. It was much better ref'd than the Everton game. That is not to say West Ham deserved the win in that game, but the result could have been quite different if the ref controlled the game better (the Cole red from that game was later overturned).

Seats from the game yesterday:

Joe`s in for a lot of taunting, not to mention hair rubbing. Bad move. Terrible ad.

Has Lampard ever scored any goals in the 3rd division? Let alone 6 like Canham?

Given the year, its like if the Flames had a similar fan conference at the time, as they do now. In similar fashion it would be a fiery Pierre Page talking up young Iginla, but some know it all dink in the crowd (there's always one or two at these things) thinking or pretending they are smarter then the coaches and the audience, moaning about how he projects that the jettisoning of Jarrod Skalde and Niklas Sunblad the past offseason are a bigger concern than an overrated up and comer like Iginla.

Tottenham have joined the race to sign Barcelona striker David Villa, the Daily Mail reports. Liverpool's request to acquire Villa on a loan deal was rejected earlier this week and it now seems Spurs and Arsenal are in a two-horse race for the Spaniard. Barca are only willing to sell Villa for an estimated fee of around £16 million. Chelsea are no longer in the hunt for the 31-year-old after signing Ba and the Catalan giants will only accept major offers for Villa to depart Camp Nou in January.
I don't like the idea of spending 16M on a 31 year-old striker, but if Levy thinks he has the cash...

Tottenham want to sign Zeki Fryers last summer as he is out of contract

Man United demand 6m or tribunal, Spurs only offer 3m and don't want a tribunal

Zeki Fryers goes to Standard Liege (free transfer) last summer, Zeki Fryers signs today for Spurs, they pay Standard Liege 3m

http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/st...287086?cc=5901

I imagine at some point this was mentioned to someone

"do you want to make 3m pounds Standard Liege..."

don't see it happening at all, mostly because like you said on the age, but also I think he stays at Barca until the summer

wish someone would do it in a higher profile CL game, probably the only way that UEFA do end up acting on it

plenty of question on Holtby to Spurs. some quick thoughts

he's a no10 who can play deeper but isn't quite ready for that yet. ok in wide positions but not really at his best there

his main problem is inconsistency. not always at the level that we saw from him v Arsenal at the Emirates and for German U21 (excellent)

don't see a way for him to play for Germany at the moment. but that doesn't really matter, think of Mata / Spain

here's the important bit, imo. because he's free, it's really a no-brainer. at, say 70k per week, he basically plays for free for 2 years

..as Spurs will always be able to sell him on for 6-7m if he doesn't work out.

the potential is there. but not a world-beater yet

by the way, I factored sign-on fees into the 70k wages, for argument's sake

btw, he can't switch to England after playing a qualifier for Germany

If I was @Marcotti, I'd say "the upside" is much bigger than the risk here #Holtby
the bolded part reminds me of Modric

Modric played behind the striker before he came to Spurs, took a year or two to move him to a Deep Lying Playmaker

think he fits in perfect in the 4-3-3 AVB wants, either the most advanced player if they get Moutinho to play deeper, or in the future deeper if he brings someone in better to play advanced like Eriksen
