My dog and I are part of this organization:

I take him to the Children's hospital on Wednesday nights for an hour and he visits with sick kids.

There's nothing better than seeing my guy lick a kid in the face who has had a really tough go in life, been through multiple operations, and is in chronic pain at all times laugh his/her little ass off and brighten up for a short period of time.

If you're ever interested in curing your absolute ignorance towards dogs feel free to get in touch with me... I'll see if I can bring a "special" guest and you can see how much of a positive influence dogs can make in someones life.

As far as I know, dogs in an offleash park are to be in control at all times, if your dog doesn't come when called, it should be on a leash. It's in the best interest of the dog really.

That may be. Another reason for me not to form an opinion and/or lay blame.

I haven't "blamed" the young girls. You quoted my post presumably you read it. Blame and responsibility are not necessarily the same thing.

An off-leash area isn't meant to be a free-for-all. You are responsible to still be able to maintain control of your dog.

well it's not a true off leash. her leash is still attached to her collar. and we only do it by our house at the Bowmont Park where she actually kinda listens. Otherwise it will be a minimum hour game of tag and hide and seek.

Watched the news report last night and it was the Great Pyreneese that circled twice then bit one pitbull. It then lunged a second time and that's when it all went to ####.

It looked like the off leash area was just a post and cable type fence, not the chain link at larger off leash areas. The guy was walking the pitbulls on the side walk and the other dogs left the off leash area and came over to his dogs.

The guy tried to control the dogs but come on...3 pitbulls, there's no way, they're bricks of muscle those things.

Like First Lady I am not supporting either side, but also like First Lady there are 2 sides to the story.

It was a horrible incident for both sides.

Not sure why, but on Global they didn't forewarn you of graphic pictures. and then they proceed to show all the blood in the snow where the pom was ripped apart.

Wow in less than 20 minutes your dog has gone from being "uncallable" to "kinda listening". By the end of today she should be fully trained.

And the other end is in your hand? If not, she is off-leash.

I heard about this on the radio this morning and they said that the largest fine that could be levied against the pitbull owner was $1000. I suppose they could also take the dogs away too, but I was wondering that if during the attack the owner of the dog being attacked began kicking the pitbull and ended up killing it. Would the maximum fine for that person also be $1000?

Not to poke too much fun at the situation, but this is kind of like Verne Troyer sucker punching Andre the Giant. How would one expect this situation to end? It's SMS of the canine world.

Have you not been reading? It was the great pyrenese and not the pommeraian. Can a pomm even reach a pitbulls nose?

Awful situation. ####ty all around.

For what it's worth, I've seen plenty of dogs at river park and southland get super aggressive when another dog won't leave them alone. If you can't recall your dog or your dog is prone to nipping at bigger dogs, please try to be a better owner and get some training done. It's not just pitbulls who will do this.

you didn't ask any questions. What did i have to answer? All you did was give me a smart ass remark. haha.

In the end Calgary would be better off without pitbulls.

I've read both versions of the unconfirmed story. And yes, a Pomeranian can certainly reach the nose of a pitbull, they aren't really all that large.

From the City of Calgary website

Dogs must be under their owner's control at all times. In off-leash areas, this means dogs must be able to respond to their owner's voice, sound or visual commands. This will help protect your dog from unforeseen hazards such as cars, unfriendly dogs or coyotes.

Well on Global they interviewed the guy with the pitbulls and he said it was the great pyrenese's fault.
