They should, but I doubt they will. I thought Allen was a disaster this year. Bringing Knapp back as offensive coordinator was beyond idiotic.

I don't think it will be major. They might hire a new offensive co-ordinator, but they knew they had roster issues, and no draft picks when they hired these guys last year.

Interesting little factoid...

Over the past two years, 16 NFL teams (including, by force, the Saints) have begun the new season with a different head coach than the one who began the season before. Exactly three went on to produce a plus-.500 record.

Look at the teams firing coaches today...what do they all have in common...QB issues. There are very few coaches who can win without good QB play. Of all the now open positions...I think San Diego is the only one where there is a QB you can win with in place for the next guy, and even Rivers in the past two years has regressed in his play.

*edit*
Chicago with Cutler is a decent opening too.

I think Carolina will be a pretty attractive position. I thought Newton really busted out of his sophmore slump at the end of the season.

Is Carolina officially open yet? I would agree that with a QB in place that it would be one of the more attractive openings. I'm not so sure Rivera should go to tell you the truth. Their defence did get a lot better towards the end of the year, and Newton did start playing much better too. They spiked from a 2 win team to a 6 win team and followed it up by winning 7 games. Usually when a team spikes with 4 or more wins than it had the previous year, they regress the following season, and the Panthers didn't. I think they also went 4-2 in the Division.

It appears Ron Rivera is going to survive “Black Monday.”

Beyond that, Rivera's future remains uncertain.

Rivera said he was not sure when the meeting would take place, and it could be as soon as today. But team sources said Richardson did not want to make a rash decision, adding it might be Wednesday before he visits with Rivera.
When Richardson fired general manager Marty Hurney in November, he told Rivera he wanted to see the trend upward over the final 10 weeks of the season. The Panthers were 6-4 after Hurney's firing, although only two of the wins came against teams with winning records.

I can't believe they're keeping Rex after the debacle this year.

As for the Browns, this is perfect for Saban, he can be the GM and the HC and that was what he wants (full power) and the new owner and Saban have a connection

I can say Bama fans are really worried about it

The issue with Cam is his "me" syndrome and the willingness to throw the staff under the bus when he made terrible decisions with the ball.

So are there any Black Head Coaches in the NFL anymore? I can't wait for Jesse Jackson to hear this

Frazier in MIN.
Tomlin in PIT.

Not surprising about most of the firings. Lovie Smith maybe the most but after that long, usually a change of guard.

The Jets need the biggest draw they have, and that's Ryan, but also need the change.

Have to thank the stars when SEA was interested in Kolb that ARI got him...that move sealed the moves ARI did today.

Knapp should be out in OAK...horrible hire, as he was in Seattle 3 years ago, buit OAK has to build some stability.

Tough year for Romeo Cronell though, seeing a guy kill himself.

So who steps up? Gruden? Cowher? Saban? Chip Kelley from Oregon?

Wonder where Norv will turn up as OC? And Reid may have a tough time...not that many places willing to give as much power as he had in PHI...at least not until the success is proven at the coaching level.

Tomlin, Leslie Frazier, Marvin Lewis are the only ones that come to mind. Two out today in Smith and Crennel. I imagine Smith will latch on somewhere.

There has to be at least 3 that I can think off the top of my head (Tomlin, Frazier, Lewis) but Jackson would probably whine even if there were 32 Black Head Coaches.

Regarding who steps up I imagine more than a few jobs will stay open until the Broncos season is finished. McCoy will get some offers as his work with creating an offense to work with Tebow and staying out of Manning's way will make NFL front offices happy. Del Rio and the amazing job he's done with the Denver defense this year will probably get significant attention as well. I really hope the Broncos lock Del Rio up for a few years and pay him almost HC money to stay. They really need some stability with coaching on that side of the ball.

As I typed that I get a message saying the Bears are interested in talking to McCoy.

One guy I could definitely see making the jump is Stanford HC David Shaw. He's already got 9 years of positional coaching experience in the NFL and likely wouldn't demand as much control over a team as Chip or Saban.

Raiders keeping Allen but dumping the following

firing of offensive coordinator Greg Knapp. Also fired were special teams coordinator Steve Hoffman, offensive line coach Frank Pollack and linebackers coach Johnny Holland

Chicago Bears receiver Devin Hester was so distraught Monday after hearing Lovie Smith was fired that he actually talked about retiring.

Hester claimed to have retirement papers in his pocket while speaking to reporters at Halas Hall. We noted earlier how unproductive his season was, both on offense and special teams, and that he is now 30 years old. But you have to assume Hester will cool down on the retirement issue.

He is arguably one of the best returners in the history of the NFL and has time left in his playing window to cement an unprecedented run to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. It would be silly to allow Smith's firing to derail that ambition.

I wonder who will lose return yards for the bears next year if he retires

Thanks, I can't believe I forgot about them.

Lovie is a good guy, met him last year right before the draft at my hotel, super nice and a stand up guy

the idea of a head coach named Chip is kind of funny...
