Default Driving to the US without passport

I have a few days off and was thinking of taking a short drive to Montana. Is it even possible without a passport or should I not waste my time and just head over to BC?

I don't think you can cross the border without a passport anymore. Either way.

I don't think you can cross the border through air or land without a passport.

All travellers, including US and Canadian citizens, must present a valid passport or other approved secure document when entering the United States.

Living in BC I got myself an enhanced drivers license. It's no different than a regular license accept I had to make a special appointment to get one. Ive drove across the border a few times with no other id accept that with no problems. Unfortunately a quick search shows that it is not available in Alberta.

If you put a bunch of wiring and batteries in the trunk of your car you'll get a all expenses paid trip to Cuba.

You can cross on land without a passport -- sort of. If you use Nexus (and everyone in your car also has Nexus) you don't need to show your passport.

I'm going to take a wild guess that if he doesn't have a passport, he doesn't have a Nexus card...

The "enhanced drivers license" is essentially a border crossing card which takes more time to get than a passport.
