I bet its all a dream sequence.
I hope Dexter Get's arrested and the final season is about him escaping from jail and being on the run all across america.

I saved last week's episode and am planning to watch the two episodes back to back tonight. Looking forward to seeing how things get set-up for the last season.

Can I ask what channel this shows on? We have Shaw. I watched a few episodes nearer the beginning and I was just getting hooked on it when Shaw kept changing their lineup and I could never find it again. I think I'll order the past seasons in at the library, to try and catch up.

Holy ####. The ending wasn't entirely unexpected, but it didn't make it any less powerful.
Sarah Carpenter was fantastic.

Alright, I've been pretty anti-Dexter for the last season or 2, or 3, but I thought that was a pretty awesome finale. The ending was kinda predictable, but the episode in general, from start to finish was great.
But I disagree with Cole 436's take on Jennifer Carpenter's acting, especially at the end. I thought it was pretty awful.
But great finale for sure.

So were those new Doakes scenes or scenes from seasons 1 and 2? It has been so long that I can't remember. I'm guessing new.
Pretty intense finale IMO. Deborah might as well become a zombie on the walking dead because her brain must be complete mush after everything she has been through this season. I'm guessing the opening scene of the final season will be her in a stray jacket drooling on herself in a mental institution.

New, and those Doakes scenes served as a reminder of how amazing Doakes was
The one thing I don't get is with next season being the last season, the only remaining conflict is Dex/Deb (and possibly Hannah/Deb)
Does she turn him in? because no one else seems to be on to him at this point and I don't think the show can have a happy ending

Loved the finale. Laguerta was annoying in an awesome way this season, as opposed to get-off-my-screen annoying. Deb is fantastic. I know I've been waiting for Deb and Dex to team up.

How are they going to explain this though? Have Laguerta just disappear?? Or will they have it look like she was killing that guy to frame Dexter again and Deb caught her?

Yeah this bothered me too but I guess they have to give you a reason or two to tune in next season. One of Deborah's bullets is in Laguerta so the frame angle seems to make sense.

My assumption is they (Dexter) chopped up and disposed of both bodies (well, maybe not both but definitely Laguerta). I am assuming this because (of course) Laguerta was shot with Deb's gun, and we see Deb and Dexter walk into the New Years Eve party at the end of the episode. If Dexter and Deb were to have made up some story about the death and called it in, there is no way they would have been at that party as they would have been tied up with paperwork/interviews for hours and hours.

As I'm sitting here thinking about it I'm expanding my theory. Maybe they do cut up and dispose of Laguerta, but leave Estrada in the cargo container after shooting him in the chest with Laguerta's gun. Estrada's body gets found whenever it gets found, Miami Metro runs the ballistics on the bullet and find it matches Laguerta's gun - who strangely enough hasn't shown up at work the last couple of days...leaving her as a suspected cop turned killer on the run, who (of course) is never heard from again.
Edit: Thinking back, Deb heard a gunshot immediately before entering the container, meaning Dexter already shot Estrada in his puncture wound with Laguerta's gun - I think I might be on to something here.

If the bullet went through LaGuerta, they could have shot her again with Estrada's gun and taken the bullet that Deb had shot. I don't know whether the medical examiner could tell that something was off if they tried that, but it seems at least as plausible as making a knife wound look like a bullet wound.
Overall, I thought it was an excellent episode. This show has its ups and downs, but the writers always manage to nail the finales.

Only thing I didn't like about the ending was how Laguerta went to the shipping dock by herself. Would she not have brought some back up? She seems smart enough to at least bring a squad car with her.

this part bothered me too. the first time she shows up with just a suspicion that Dexter is there with Estrada, she has a 2 cop escort. the 2nd time when she KNOWS Dexter is there she goes alone? seemed a little silly

That bothered me too, but after seven seasons I think we can come to the conclusion that the Miami Police Dept. has to be the worst run police department in America, so it makes sense. Just look how easily Hannah got away as another example (shouldn't Dexter and Debra care that she's on the run?)
I was hoping they would have the last season of Dexter on the run since really they have played out every other scenario in the first six seasons, but I guess going this route leaves them open to write the last season however they want. But really what other direction can they go to end it?
Oh and why didn't Debra just let Dexter kill Laguerta himself? Now they can't frame it the way Dexter wanted to (like said before).
