How was Bilbo's wardrobe, though? Did it convey the essence of hobbit without being too much?

Weekend Box Office: 'The Hobbit' Sees A Record-Breaking Weekend
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/1...=entertainment
After a huge Friday opening, "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" continued to shine at the box office, making $84.7 million across 4,045 theaters this weekend. THR reports that this total makes "The Hobbit" the highest December weekend gross ever. The Peter Jackson film beat out former record holder, "I Am Legend," which made $77.2 million over its opening weekend in 2007.

How does someone call The Hobbit sensationalist?

I find this post both shallow and pedantic.

The threat of Sauron to Middle-Earth isn't nearly so dire as portrayed in the Hobbit. It's completely sensationalist.
Yeah, I don't know . . .

It was certainly obvious in places the stuff that should have hit the editing room floor. But once they were out of the Shire there was less of that. Riddles in the dark was far and away the best scene in the movie. There was plenty I would have changed, and a few things (like the trolls) that I don't understand why they DID change. And the overall feel was at times silly, the merit of which atmosphere is up for debate.
They really went all out trying to make Thorin into the Dwarven Aragorn.

I liked it. Could have done without the 3D, but that's a complaint that's rarely ever going to change, I think. It was too long for my taste but...I enjoyed the film, which really, is the goal in the end.

Can't agree with the backlash on the Shire stuff. That stuff is front and center in the Hobbit novel, and in context of what now is a six movie series seems even more important to establish.
As far as 'sensationalist' goes, I guess you could make a case that some of the subplots are sensationalist, ie. Azog, in the sense that they are largely manufactured for the sake of the film. But these are clearly added to give the film(s) different centerpoints. If you're a hardcore purist, you're probably not going to enjoy or even watch these movies to begin with.

The book, obviously, is a children's classic. The film was just... god... horrible. Good thing Jackson is making three installments, so you guys can stand in line, and pay three times.

Probably more like 6 or 9 times as I will see them at least twice each in the theatre..

I saw it yesterday and I really enjoyed it. Wished I could've seen it in 3D but some of the family can't handle the 3D.
But I took it for what it is, a fantasy adventure book made into a fantasy adventure movie. I found the book much more light hearted than LOTR and found the movie the same.
I thought it was very well done and will probably go see it in 3D over the holidays.

I thought it was excellent. Opened with a bang and kept you interested for the whole movie. While I will agree there was a couple of scence that could have been left out, I didn't feel like any part dragged on.
Riddles in the Dark scence was excellent, very well done.
I do have a question though about one of the scenes

I'm seeing it tomorrow
I was listening to this review.. ignore the girl I think she just hates everything fantasy.
But the guy makes an interesting point, he liked it on 24 but hated it on 48 frame rate.
Is there such a thing as too much?
