Which is kind of dumb if you ask me. The WJC's is at least on par with NCAA level of competition, if not higher. If Gaudreau has a great tournament but ends up losing out on the Hobey Baker because of missing a handful of games, it will feel like highway robbery. No?

How come he can go to Russia? Are national teams exempt from NCAA regulations? I'd assume he's not paying for that trip.
Also - Mr.Joji, just bank on him having a killer WJC -and- winning the Hobey Baker. Shoot for the stars my friend!

Fairly certain the voters will consider his time missed by being picked for the WJ's. No?

I think worrying about an award is a waste. Gaudreau said himself the major let down from last year was not making team USA. Think about it, its better to get Gold by playing against top players amassed from all the different leagues than to win the hobey baker award, which would be earned against opponents with varied skill levels.

Last week, Johnny Football became the first freshman to ever win the Heisman, and this week, Johnny Hockey stays at the top of the Hobey Watch: http://www.cbssports.com/nhl/blog/ey...-watch-week-10
Quote:
1. Johnny Gaudreau – Boston College
Position: Forward
Class: Sophomore
Ht: 5-7 Wt: 150
Season Stats: 14 GP, 11g-12a—23pts
Comment: The sophomore forward potted a goal and added an assist in BC's 3-3 tie at Providence, the Eagles' lone game last week. His 11 goals this year has him tied for second nationally. He has been the picture of consistency this year for the No.1 team in the country and is certainly one of the most exciting players in college hockey. His stint with the U.S. National Junior Team will cost him at least three games at BC, which shouldn't hurt him too badly in the Hobey race. While his play at the World Juniors won't directly affect his candidacy, a good performance there might at least help him build a little more hype, as if he needs anymore.

Give 'em hell in Russia, Johnny.

I don't know if anyone has already thought of this comparison before but Johnny Gaudreau kind of reminds me of Tyler Ennis. Similar height and weight, and they both have a very similar skillset. Both are very fast skaters with good hands and playmaking skills. Ennis has put up very good numbers so if Gaudreau could become an Ennis-type player I think we would be blessed.

Anyone know if Gaudreau has the qualifications for doing the NCAA loophole like Wheeler and Schultz did?

No. He went straight into the NCAA after being drafted.
Had Jankowski opted to play in the USHL in Dubuque, for example, he'd have been able to do what Schultz did after 4 years.

Gaudreau has more skill than Ennis imo. I think he will be a significantly better player than Ennis.

It's a real shame that Sutter had the chance to select Ennis and instead chose "stone hands slow as molasses" Nemisz. Oh well, thankfully new management seems to be targetting skill over size.
