My children are older (late teens, early 20s) but they all got hugs today. My youngest had an accident 2 years ago that led to major complications that really messed up her schooling, while we were trying to get a diagnosis and treatment, so she is finishing her schooling online - so I know where she is at all times but I still held her and her brothers close today.

I don't think there's a final tally yet.

This really bothers me. God damnit America, get gun control, and get it now. What is going on these past several months?

All I heard was "mass killing" by that bearded guy on CNN.

I'm so happy I don't live in the USA. I am starting to despise that place.

I could not imagine having to deal with the people that support access to guns and blame stuff like this on TV and video games on a regular basis. It would literally enrage me.

I just read his timeline. He talked about being depressed and hating his parents.

Columbine was the largest school shooting until today. They don't include University shootings in that.

They do include University shootings in mass killing which was Virginia Tech. That's the explanation that CNN gave.

Couldn't agree more. As I get older I have less and less inclination to go down there for anything - holidays, work, conferences, or whatever else. Hell, I even hate transferring planes in the US.

The land itself is beautiful and great. But the people are divided, angry, frustrated, and distrusting more times than not when I'm down there. I'm always left with the impression of a distinct lack of community among people down there. However, I spend most of my time in urban areas, so perhaps the countryside is different.

To me this problem seems 3fold.

Gun control is just part of the problem, treating the symptom if you will. But you do have to wonder why this happens so frequently in the States. I blame the media sensationalizing stuff like this and giving these clowns what they are after, attention.

Better Guntrol, sure. Figure out why this is so common place in the US (serial killers, mass shooters, militias, etc...) Not sure what can be done about the media though but they are certainly part of the problem.

While I don't jump on that bandwagon, maybe these types of games/music/movies, are fine for the majority, but when someone unstable immerses themselves in them it is a catalyst for an event such as this.

There have been a few games which we have taken away from our kids due to changes in their behaviour, and the change was like night and day.

I love going to America. It's a fun, happening place.

However, its always unnerving to see a normal citizen packing a gun in a holster. That's just alien.

Otherwise, I enjoy exploring different parts of it.

I think it depends what part of the US you are in.

Having lived in San Jose for 4 years now, I feel just as safe as I did in Alberta. The only crimes here are gang on gang crimes. That's how it was in Alberta too. If I moved to Oakland though which is a few hours away, I don't think I would feel as safe.

As a Canadian living in the US do you ever have discussions about gun violence with your US friends?
