Looking at all these awesome looking masks. Is there an equipment rule whereby the goalies can not go back to the old school style masks?
I've read that it's more a matter of the hybrid cage/mask being safer than the full-on mask (absorbing the shock of impact better, or something). I like the look of the full-on mask better (gives the goalie more of an air of menace, each mask had more individuality and there's more canvas to paint on), but I can accept the safety argument.

I can too. I mean I also played the position but never facing slapshots well over 100 miles an hour. I'm just thinking with all of the things we invent maybe something could be designed that's just as safe as the hybrid and if that's possible would it still be legal by NHL measures?
