Merry Christmas? Not according to this man in Saskatoon
Quote:
The man behind a Saskatchewan human rights complaint over a prayer at a volunteer banquet now has another beef with the city of Saskatoon.
Ashu Solo has filed a complaint with transit over city buses displaying Merry Christmas on programmable bus signs.

I think he has a point.. but seriously, it is Christmas.. I consider myself agnostic, and I am not offended in the slightest by this or anything else Christmas related. I understand if he is upset and it is his right to voice that opinion, but don't be shocked if nothing happens out of this.
Next they will tell me niece she can't wear her Halloween costume to school... oh wait...

Why would a city bus be exclusive and not inclusive of all the people who use its services.
Is it really that big of a deal to say Happy Holidays to include all people instead of singling out just one group to wish well?

I guess this must be his first "Christmas" in Canada if he is this surprised and offended. I know plenty of people who are not Christian and who celebrate Christmas. Not the Jesus part of Christmas but the giving and sharing. In a way this is one of the rare days in our lives where we show we truly care about others and don't put ourselves first.

Thor I totally agree, they should have been sensitive to everyone, cycle in Merry Christmas with Happy Holidays, Hanukkah (the three Jews in Saskatoon would be thrilled).. and every other holiday at that time of year. But don't demand it be taken off, just added too. Equal rights, I am all about that, cover all the bases.
Also I was wrong, according to City Hall the Merry Christmas will be struck from the buses. Like I said above, I understand the need to include everyone, but why exclude everyone?

I'm sorry, but are athiest d-bags not able to use buses with "Merry Christmas" on the signage?
Christ, this is no less stupid than if a Riders fan were to complain because Calgary Transit had "Go Stamps Go" on it ahead of the Grey Cup.

I hope his employer makes him work Christmas Day so as not to offend his sensibilities.

Isn't "Holiday" derived from "Holy Day"? And by the same token, "good-bye" comes from "God be with you". Religious-based words/phrases show up in other languages too - adios, adieu.
I find it funny/sad that (some) Christians are angry that Jesus is not central to Christmas anymore, and (some) atheists are angry that people are saying "Merry Christmas".

Atheists don't really complain much about Christmas. It is usually other religious groups. Especially the ones that have some beef with Christianity.

I take it then he will gladly work Christmas day, thanksgiving and all other ''christian'' holidays? What a pathetic waste of skin. Go back to your own country if you are offended so much. If he was born here, deport him anyways.

The ironic thing is that this guy probably gladly celebrates St Patrick's Day.

You realize why this makes you look like a moron, right? Canada is not a Christian nation.

There is probably not enough time in the day to cycle through everyone's holiday message.
Do you know how many religions there are?

Why is Christmas Day a national holiday then?
