The Eskimos will announce their new GM this afternoon. Hervey? Reed? O'Day?

After promising not to “kick dirt on anyone,” Ed Hervey does just that, bashing ET
Quote:
It's not surprising that many in the Edmonton Eskimos' organization are still unhappy with previous general manager Eric Tillman, and it's not all that surprising that new general manager Ed Hervey took plenty of shots at Tillman during his introductory press conference Monday (although it is a little unusual to see such public criticisms from CFL executives). What is surprising is that Hervey did so after promising not to. Per @CFL_News, Hervey said he wouldn't "kick dirt on anyone, that's not the Eskimo way." As you can see from this TSN video report on Hervey's hiring, though, that's not exactly a promise he followed. Hervey said "I wasn't interested in helping anyone build their ego," and when asked if Tillman took the organization away from the oft-cited phrase "The Eskimo Way," he responded "You can never take us away, but you can derail. Double E stands for the Edmonton Eskimos, not the Ego Empire."
|
Quote:
Those weren't the only shots at Tillman Hervey took. He also said "We're no longer going to be perceived as a sideshow," stated "We're going to control our message" and with reference to the Eskimos' scouting system, said "Gone are the days where guys will keep information on spiral notebooks and bookbags." He also added "We're just going to do things a way we're accustomed to doing them here in Edmonton — the right way. ...We're all used to the Eskimos being unified. I believe over the last couple of seasons it became different around here, but those days are done."

Wasn't Hervey the d-bag that swung a helmet at a Stamps LB back in the day?
Is that the EE way in regards to doing things right?
It may be that this guy turns about to be a great GM but for now as a Stamps fan this seems like a good hire for me. The CFL certainly needs new blood but I will take Huf and the Stamps staff over this goof any day of the week.

My guess is one of the following could end up as the coach of Hamilton next season, Craig Dickenson, Paul LaPolice, Chris Jones, Mike O'Shea, and Jacques Chapdelaine.
Adam Bighill signed a contract extension with BC today. What happens with Solomon Elimimian?

Not surprising I said when he was hired Cortez isn't a head coach.

Yup, hit a ref IIRC on the sidelines. The Eskimo way, just like his teammate AJ Gass throwing a helmet down the field, and getting Hugh Campbell to get a season ticket holder Alberta Court of Queens bench judge to wipe away the suspension. The Eskimo way, trading away Maas, but deeming him the player to be named later, so they could keep him for the playoffs.
Hervey may have a problem doing some of those old "Eskimo way" things now; Braley is in control of the league office now. No more notebooks and book bags hey...ooh, new Ipads for the scouts! No kicking dirt on anyone...except for the ones that leave or he fires (Kavis Reed, next), right?
I think the circus up there may continue, just with a more vocal, and less creepy/touchy/feely GM. No QB, as the star was an undersized linebacker who got his tires pumped up by TSN week in and week out.

Speaking of the "Eskimo way"
TSNDaveNaylor: Hearing that Grant Shaw's deal with Edm makes him the CFL's only six-figure guy who only performs place-kicking duties.#cfl #Esks
Nice work, Ed

WTF??? Shaw's personally responsible for two losses against the Stamps this year!
There's two joke franchises in the CFL right now. Edmonton, and Winnipeg.
As for the 'Peg - Doing anything but putting Buck Pierce out to pasture is utterly irresponsible for the franchise. He can't even backup because in any case where he's asked to play due to the starter going down to injury, it'll just end up being the third stringer playing. Running the numbers, if you watch Buck Pierce start a game there's a less than 50% chance you'll watch him finish that same game. That's of a sample size of more than 50 games too, where the statistical significance increases.
- Your intelligence has to get questioned when you ask permission to interview the defensive co-ordinator responsible for worst defense in the league ahead of him inevitably getting fired.

Where do you put Hamilton Tiger Cats? They have one of the best offense and fired an head coach and OC George Cortez.
Anyways, i agree it was a joke signing a kicker for 6-figure contract especially when he lost two games for them for choking. Eskimos have a lot of free agents that warrants an increase in salary ie: JC Sherritt so why spend 6-figure salary on a kicker... **shaking my head***

Arash Madani was on Rod Pedersens show today (Sportscage). He said the following on the show:
"All signs point to it (Kent Austin going to Hamilton)".
"Austin may get in and around two million dollars to go to Hamilton.."
"Likely next week (the Austin announcement will come)."
