I'm still leaning towards the Tassimo cause my parents are far from coffee snobs. They drink Maxwell and Nabob at home and they don't even brew it. They pour a scoop or two of the grind into their cup and then pour over it with boiling water...

If that's the case, thats what I would get. You can find the disks pretty much anywhere, and there's a wide selection.

I have both the Tassimo and the Nespresso. Based on the fact that they drink nabob and maxwell I suggest going with the Tassimo, the discs are cheaper and more readily available and you can even get Nabob discs. Costco now has a half priced disk pac.

Now as to taste, thats another thing.

Yeah. The only debate in my head is that I'm sure they'll like the better tasting coffee if I got it for them. It's just whether or not it's even worth it if they'll be content with swill.

We have Kureg at work, and Tassimo at home. Our work Kureg is dying, so I bought a Tassimo to replace it. My reasons in order:

- Price. Got the brewer for $60 (Staples door crasher Saturday), and the Discs are generally cheaper. I can get Maxwell house for 37¢ per disc without going out of my way.
- I am not a coffee snob. Like Dennis Leary- I like "coffee flavoured" coffee.
- Brewing size. "The barcode brews it better" is a bit of a lie. The barcode tells the machine how much water to add; based on the strength of the disc. So I can buy discs that make a 16 oz coffee
- Tim Hortons T-discs. Yes, I like Tim Hortons coffee. Now I don't need to go outside to go get one.

That all being said, there's nothing wrong with the Kureg system. I'd say either would be fine.

Another vote for Keurig. I love mine, and the Dark Kenyan roast is awesome.

But then again, I don't do foofoo steamed drinks and such. Just a coffee with 1 cream and 1 sugar kinda guy.

This is the machine I have, the B60, and every once and a while Walmart has it on sale for $99. Snap it up if you can get it. Don't get a machine lower than this one though, as the lower models don't make a big enough cup. Easiest way to tell is make sure it has the LCD display on it. The box a;ways says Special Edition on it.

I just bought a Nescafe Dolce something...

It seems to make good coffee. I also have a Tassimo, so I think coffee quality, the Nescafe is better, but the Tassimo is less work as the machine reads the code and voila, good coffee. I don't mind waiting a minute or two for the coffee... so pros and cons to each. I do like the Tassimo selection though, that's a big one to consider.

I bought the Keurig Platinum (B70?) at Costco for $164.99 as a gift.

It comes with 60 K-Cups and one reusable cup that you can put your own coffee into. I think that's a great deal (well the entire concept is a rip-off but in terms of relative prices) The 60 cups would cost you $30-$60 already and the reusable filter cup is like $20 at Wal-Mart.

My parents have that particular machine. It's nice because it has a reservior. Another +1 for Keurig.

For buying the K-cups, Costco has good prices but a limited selection (a Timothy's variety pack, some Starbucks), wheres a place like Home Outfitters you'll pay a bit more for the K-cups, but they have a wide array of brands and flavors to choose from. You can also get the re-usable K-cup that you can put your own grind into:

The thing about the Nespresso is that it is head and shoulders above the others in terms of quality because the capsules are fresher, however its a different way of drinking coffee, even the long shots are smaller doses of coffee. The Tassimo and the Kuerig both depend more on the what you put in it, and hey if you add cream and sugar any swill will do.

I have had a couple of discs in the Tassimo that were not bad as a black, the Carte Noire "Americano" being one and the Tims being the other.

I bought Tassimo so I can have Tims at home .... if you think Tims is swill, you are far too pretentious.

Do you sniff your wine too?

No. There's a reason they need to sugar and cream the #### out of it. Not wanting to drink bad coffee isn't pretentious.

McDonalds has better coffee than Tim's if you want something that is on the same relative price level.

Interesting, I have had it a few times and didn't enjoy the taste or the jitters.

I own a Keurig and my in-laws own a Tassimo. For a plain old cup of coffee, both are fine. What I like about the Keurig, as mentioned, is the refillable k-cup.

What I don't like about the Tassimo are the fake, disgusting milk discs. I have tried a couple of lattes, and they are vile.

So if you're looking for a straight up cup of coffee, choose either. If you're looking for terrible lattes that you'll never use, get the Tassimo. If you're looking for proper lattes, you'll have to look beyond Tassimo and Keurig and consider steaming your own milk or getting a higher end machine.

+1 for the Keurig

Our first one broke and they sent us a new one, no questions asked. Second one has been flawless.

Also, the patent for K-cups recently expired, which hopefully means costs coming down. In the meantime, Costco.
