From the videos and a few blog posts from people that have played early builds, it appears they are really focusing on the interactions between smaller cities, as opposed to building mega cities.

I guess they really should have allowed both region play, and single city play, where the size of the city wouldn't have any size limitations. Because even the large sized cities from before become too small eventually. No reason to keep them limited with the way computers are these days.

Are you even allowed to choose plot size in this one, or is every city plot stuck at that "medium" size?

One thing I've always hated about Sim City was you could never build a proper chinatown in it. I wanted a choice to either build a nice clean one like Calgary's, or barring that, a crime-ridden craphole like Vancouver's.
I also want to be able to build black neighborhoods.

The game play videos they have released so far let you select from either a pre-determined map (that is locked to one size) or a "great works" site for things like an international airport.
The good news is that Maxis has been very vocal in saying that the videos they have released are nowhere near the final product yet.

Isn't this what happens when you don't build police stations in your city?

I think it'd be pretty cool if they could port GPS maps from something like Google earth into Simcity. That way you could build cities on real locations anywhere in the world.
Too bad this game doesn't come out till March. It's going to be a long wait for a great looking game from the previews so far.

The size of cities restricting to the medium SC4 is a bit disappointing, but when you think about it alot of US cities are simple amalgamations of a bunch of cities into 1 so that is probably what they were thinking of there.
The few concerns I have that I have seen in some of the previews is in the Region there seems to be a prebuilt regional highway and rail. I dont know if that comes default or if its just showing ingame and someone built that.
I havent seen anything about farming yet as well which is strange.

How does the beta work? Does everyone who shows interest get a chance?

They pick and choose. Not everyone that signs up will get in. The sign-ups have been open since August; not sure how long they'll remain open.

If we can't have bigger maps it would be nice if regions were right up against each other. Not a big fan of the giant space of land in between regions.

I think I have to subscribe to this thread. I played SimCity 2000 a lot back in the day. This looks like a lot of fun.

This game is looking like a Day 1 buy to me. We'll HAVE to create a giant CP World.

I haven't read anywhere, are there going to be limits on number of cities within a region?

I call dibs on handling all the garbage, power, and whatever other filthy services I can provide to the rest of you.
My citizens will live in a smog infested wasteland while I overlook them in my massive mansion, swimming in a sea of money like Scrooge McDuck.
