SUNDIN'S OT GOAL TIES SERIES 1-1!

Minnesota-The Minnesota Wild tied the Howe conference quarter final series at a game a piece with the Winnipeg Jets Saturday afternoon. Mats Sundin scored late in the first overtime period to tie the series. Jets GM Walsh said "we battled hard all night long, and the difference in tonights game was special teams. They scored both on the power play and while short handed while we came away with nothing on our power play." "I think both teams have shown that they are evenly matched and this has the potential to be a great 7 game series."

The Jets got goals from Jason York, Sandis Ozolinsh, and Petr Cajanek for each Jet it was their first goals of the post season. Minnesota's goal scorers included Trevor Letowski, Marian Hossa, Tyler Wright, and of course Mats Sundin.

Both tenders were put to the test as the Jets outshot the Wild 41-40 in the game. Hasek returned to the Wild lineup and made several key saves in OT, included a partial breakaway save off of Scott Young, just seconds before Sundin ended the game.

The series now moves to Winnipeg for games 3 and 4, expect a white out in the Winnipeg Arena.

The Ducks lose another game and once again do not end up scoring a goal.The team did end up ringing 8 shots of the goalposts and crossbar which did not end up counting as shots and had they gone in would of won the game.

The team has closed the gap on the Flames and with abit more tinkering and with the next games being played in the Ducks Barn should be coming out on top.The one positive note on the Ducks team is they have not allowed a powerplay goal yet. Now just to keep the puck out of the net.

(Edmonton) AP - Martin Biron was a major part of the reason the Canucks made the post season. Unfortunately, it seems like the pressure has given Biron the jitters. In the second straight game, Biron was pulled. If the Canucks want to win a game, he will have to shape up. The Canucks managed to score 4 goals without their leading scorer, Radek Dvorak. Yet, that offensive output was not enough.

One bright spot was the play of Petr Prucha. Thrust into the first line centre job, Prucha impressed. He finished the game with 1 goal and 2 assists. The Canucks look forward the return of powerplay specialist Yanic Perreault. He has been on the IR for the month of March.

The fans look foward to their first playoff home game in over two years when the series swings to Vancouver on Monday night. Will the fans have something to cheer about? That remains to be seen.

Preds failed to send in our lines, due to sim files not being updated and work commitment and loose.

The shot difference basically came from 8 wings powerplays to Preds 1.

Zetterberg continues to shine, picking up 3rd point in 2 playoffs games.

Dipietro played strong allowing 2 goals on 28 shots.

The series now shifts to Bust Town Detroit, tied at 1.

Preds were obviously frustrated with the horrendous officiating...taking back-to-back-to-back unsportsmanlike penalites in the 3rd period which ended any hopes of a comeback.

Dominator Returns

Dominik Hasek made a triumphant return to the Minny Wild on Saturday as he was named first star in a 4-3 win over the Jets.

The game was wide-open with both teams having at least 40 shots and forcing the goalies to make several big stops. The Wild came out firing in the first period outshooting the Jets 12-4, however they were only able to put one puck past The Buhlin Wall.

The Wild sagged in the 2nd and enterred the third trailing 2-1. The teams traded goals before Ty Wright was able to tie the game at 3 with a shorty about midway through the final stanza.

That set the stage for Mats Sundin to score his biggest goal as a Wild to not the series at one game a piece.

After the game GM Farhall admitted that a loss in this one probably the series was all but over.

"We needed this one for sure. We didn't want to be going back to The Peg down 2 games. There are still some aspects to our game that are weak - namely our 2nd line ...that will have to change otherwise tonight's win won't mean squat".

Detroit Pulls Even

The Detroit Red Wings have tied up there first round series against the Nashville Predators. Mike Comrie led the attack as he factored in on both Wings goals. The series so far has been a very physical affair. In todays tilt the Wings threw there weight around and rattled off a season high 36 body checks. In the spirited affair Preds d-man Eric Cairns caught Simon Gagne behind the net with his elbow. Todd Bertuzzi wondering how in the world Eric Cairns who had been suspended for three games on Thursday managed to sneak his way back into the Preds roster, waisted little time in coming to Gagne's aid. Mike Dunham was again sharp in net as he turned aside 16 of 17 shots and was named the game's third star. The lone goal to beat him was a nice tic tack toe play that seen former Wing Alexi Yashin one time a nice feed from Zdeno Chara. Chara, another surprise starter for the Preds who was believed to be injured put in a nice performance logging 21 minutes of ice time.

Next game in the series will shift to Detroit where the Wings had the second best home record in the conference this season.

Oil go 2 – 0 at home

A 6 – 4 shoot out with the Canucks may be a sign of things to come as the Oil play wide-open hockey in the play offs. The top line was the story once again in Edmonton as Iggy, Vinny and Morozov all scored. The first line registered eleven shots on the game. The Oil top line now has a combined 16 points for the two home games.

The Oil power play and penalty kill units played a big part in Game 2. As the Oil where 2 for 7 on the PP tonight, that broke the game open mid way through the first period giving the Oil a 4 –1 lead going into the intermission. Both Doan and Iggy cashed in on the man advantage.


The PK was only tested twice and responded both times not allowing a good scoring opportunity on either one. The way not to give up power play goals in this league is not to take penalties and the Oil accomplished that in this game.

The Canucks came to play as they fired 32 shots on Martin, 5 from Laaksonen alone. The Canucks fired shots from everywhere as 10 players registered at least 2 shots on net. Petr Prusha had a big game for the Canucks as Petr was involved in 75% of Vancouver’s scoring. Biron continues to look shaky as he has not made it to the 60 minute mark in either game boasting a .762 Save%.

The series shifts to Vancouver for games 3 and 4.

We expect to see a jacked up building when we get there. Road games in the play-offs are tough; let alone going into a division rival like Vancouver. It’s going to be loud.

We have to get to Biron early ………… to shut them up.

Flames 3 Ducks 0

Flames take a 2-0 advantage in the first round of the CPHL playoffs.

Mikka Kiprusoff was the story in this game. Kipper turned aside 23 shots including 8 off goal posts according to my counterpart in Ducks land.

Scoring once again continues to happen by committee, however Flames GM Axmann pointed out one veteran, Teemu Selanne who has yet to do anything useful with his new team.

Flames also advise that Kippers understudy, namely one Mr. Peter Axmann, posted a 2-1 record in a Novice Hockey Tournament over the weekend in Sherwood Park. Axmann's only loss came in an exciting hockey game with a Tier 1 group out of Grande Prairie. The game was a seesaw affair that had many spectators ooooing and awwwing at plays made at both ends of the rink. The Stars almost tied the game with 2 seconds to go, when one of our speedy youngsters fired a wrist show which hit both posts and popped back out again. Final Score 4-3 Grande Prairie.

In other action, the first game was a route with a final score of 12-1 and the last game played earlier today saw action against a Team billeting themselves as Team Sweden. Final score in the game today was 7-4 favouring our very own Edson Happy Camper RV Stars.

All in all a good wrap up to the Minor League season. The Happy Camper RV Stars saw a record of 26wins 2 losses and 4 ties. Axmann now awaits an injury with the CPHL flames for a possible callup. Young Axmann also advises that he is looking forward to the Calgary Flames (Okanagan Hockey School) Goaltender Evalutation Camp scheduled for the first week of August in Calgary.
