Greinke might be close to signing with the Dodgers according to Twitter! That would be awesome. I'd buy season tickets just for Kershaw and Greinke starts. That and the chance of Chad Billingsley being healthy. We shall see what pans out but that is a huge coo for LA if true, and Greinke is going to get paaaaaaiiiiiidddd.

Sounds like it could be 6 years, $145 million.
Wow.

Sounds like it's a sure thing now. The Dodgers payroll is insane, they make the old NYY teams look cheap. And they're not even done yet. I think they're at almost 19% luxury tax.

Now hearing Greinke will earn $147 million over next 6 years, not $145M, assuming deal gets done. Wow.

This is what happens when your rival wins 2 out of the last 3 years. The Dodgers feel the neglected one.

Getting paid 280 million PER YEAR for your local cable deal!!! (Note a typo. Repeat: Not not a typo!!!) and having an unlimited payroll with new ownership, doesn't hurt either.
Now the offseason becomes very interesting for our friends the Texas Rangers.

They really better sign Hamilton now. Although, the AL West hasn't done much this offseason. The Angels are no better than when the season finished and I almost guarantee the A's will not be as good. Seattle hasn't done anything either, so the Rangers are still in good shape.

Getting Michael Young away from Ron Washington should give the Rangers an addition by subtraction. Young should have been a 8-9 hitter last year.

Michael Young had the worst WAR in baseball last season. Even 8th or 9th in the lineup is flattering. He is the longest service Ranger however, but he did demand a trade awhile back, so meh.
The Angels are a mess of a franchise, but lucky enough to have the best player in the game playing CF. They gave up 3 top prospects for such a small service time of Greinke and through so much money at Wilson and Pujols, both who are really aging.

Young wasn't great last year but I understand why they stuck with him for a season after hitting .338 the year before, spot in the lineup was bad though.
Texas will probably lose a couple of their best prospects going after Shields now... they'll still be solid next year but doing it via free agency would have been alot better for them long run, certainly not a great day for them. I'd be shocked if they didn't match on Hamilton now, if they have to bring in Upton as well they'll probably pretty much have to destroy their whole farm system.

I'm disappointed that they didn't sign Grenkie.
Pros of Grenkie going to the Dodgers for the Rangers:
1. Not overpaying for a number two guy
2. More money to use effectively to fill more holes (perhaps sign Sanchez, and Mike Adams?)
3. Ability to resign Hamilton without needing ownership approval
Downsides:
1. Price of Hamilton should increase
2. If a trade for Dickey or Shields is going to happen, a blue chip will be going the other way
3. Lewis won't be ready opening day, not sure about Feliz. Darvish, Harrison, Holland, Ogando, Perez looks like the opening day rotation. Still not bad but not top teir to start the season with question marks of injuries coming back.
I'm still not comfortable with the catching situation. Not sure how to take care of that.

I agree with everything there Maritime except calling Greinke a #2 guy. He is Top 3 best pitchers in the game IMO. Texas is still such a deep team however, that this is not a gigantic loss for them.

He should be number two on the Dodgers behind Kershaw.
By what measurables is Greinke better than guys like David Price, Felix Hernandez, and Justin Verlander, plus Kershaw to be considered this good? His Whip is higher, His K rate is lower. Has he been exceptionally unlucky for three straight years with his BABIP? Is he that much better than Jerred Weaver I mean he's a legit top of the rotation guy, but is he top three in the majors? What am I missing? For a free agent he is pretty young, but at nearly 25 million per year, what type of WAR number do you need to justify that?

I'd only have him as the number two guy in Texas solely because of his personality and the fact he doesn't like the lime light. I'd put Darvish in at number one, and let Grenkie flourish behind him.
I do hope that he does well and excels in LA, having Kershaw there will help him with his media shyness as they can focus more on him.
I'm excited for the new season, but want to see a few things fall into place.

i see ARod is getting his surgery in mid January, shouldnt a guy who is getting paid what he is owe it to the team that is paying this inflated salary to get surgery right away and try to get into the lineup earlier and help them win? am i missing something here?

5 million per WAR so it's not bad deal at all actually. I expected he'd sign a much bigger contract.
Top 3 in FIP since 2009- Lee (2.86) Kershaw (2.87) Greinke, Halladay, Verlander (all at 2.93). Steep price but he's in that class.
He's incredibly durable. I think with him pitching in a pitcher friendly ballpark in a very weak hitting division he becomes a Top 3 pitcher, especially with how durable he is. He's without question top 5, I just like him enough that I guess I put him in my own personal 3.
I also don't think we have any clue to the extent of his social anxiety. If it's still even a problem, if somehow it's only limited to him pitching in smaller markets as opposed to big ones.

It's not his decision to push back the surgery, it was the team and the doctors that picked the date. Considering the stories that have come out about him spending nights in the hospital between playoff games and playing the next day, he's been a warrior for the Yankees.

The type of surgery requires significant "prehab" prior to the surgery then rehab after. The date gives A-Rod enough time to prehab.
