I think it's make it or break it time for Rex and Sanchez and Tanny. Sanchez is their guy and it's possible they feel if they don't play him they're done along with him.
If Sanchez busts this week he is done. Two bad games against Arizona and Jacksonville are inexcusable. On the other hand, if there was ever a game to get a QB's confidence back it would be this game against Jacksonville.

They dug their own grave when they inexplicably gave Sanchez an extension before the season. Now he's owed nearly $9 million next season no matter what. They start him now because they think Jacksonville sucks enough that it'll boost his confidence, and maybe he'll turn it around enough so that they don't have to outright cut him and eat the $9 million for nothing. Rex is probably a goner so he figures he might as well go down with the ship rather than try to dump some water and see if he can survive. If McElroy plays the Jets will play better if only because they have more confidence in him than Sanchez. But as it turns out, Pete Carroll was 100% correct about Sanchez.

Yup, though to be fair, even if he stayed his senior year, I still don't think he'd really be any better than he is now. I'll never get why that guy went so high, never once did I consider him to be a future franchise QB.

Why did Matt Leinhart go so high? Why is Matt Barkley about to go too high? Apparently being a pretty boy QB at USC is enough to be a top-10 pick. The Jets might have won a Super Bowl either of those two years with Josh Freeman as their QB. And lest we forget they traded up even to get Sanchez. I remember reading an article about why Rex chose Sanchez over Freeman, and it was something to the effect of Sanchez had like 20 some guys show up for him to throw balls to for his pro day and Freeman had 2 or 3. As a Bucs fan, I'm glad such idiocy landed us Freeman, cause popularity is the sign of a great QB? Josh still has some work to do, but you can see he's got the potential. Sanchez really never had it.

Ya, probably a combination of being a USC QB directly after Palmer/Leinart (at a time when Leinart still looked like he could be good), and the huge importance of the QB position in this era (well every era, but especially this one).
Its the same reason why that dud JaMarcus Russell went 1st over-all, despite not looking anything like a #1 over-all type pick at LSU. Bad teams are so desperate for a franchise QB in this era that they seem eager to use a top 5 pick on one even in a down year for QB's, when its clearly a reach. We see it every year.

And we'll see it again this year. Aaron Murray, Matt Barkley, Landry Jones, Geno Smith....none of these guys strike me as legit future NFL stars. But you said it, its a QB league now more than ever (and RGIII, Luck and Russel Wilson proof positive of that), and teams will reach on the hope.
But speaking of Wilson, he and Andy Dalton should be perfect examples of avoiding simply looking at measurables (like JaMarcus can throw 60 yards from his knees!), and how a QB plays the game. Really though all those guys kinda owe Drew Brees a drink for showing how meaningless measurables really are. I hope we see more guys who can play in the league instead of guys with great mesurables.

Mark Sanchez is not a good QB but the Jets did an awful job at giving him much talent to work with at all. Look at the offense on that team this year and tell me who could be successful in it? The jets are a mess because they have one of the worst GM's in football. Rex Ryan will get canned this season and then go back to being of the best defensive coordinators in the league.

As a Broncos fan, this game in Oakland tomorrow night scares the bejeebus out of me.

It shouldn't. The Raiders have one of the worst defenses in the league and probably the worst pass defense. Broncos are playing good ball right now and Manning will eat them alive.

I'm hoping for Broncos to have a good start in this one. Keep the game comfortable from start to finish.

Let's not forget Tannenhill, the guy has put up pretty decent numbers and looked damn good considering he's throwing to a group of WR's that appear to have been acquired by just randomly pointing at people in a Target parking lot and has a LT that will go on to highly successful career as a turnstile at Disney World.

Thanks for the responses. I agree with most of what you guys said. I just think Sanchez has been given enough chances this season. I think the Jets will beat Jacksonville but McElroy deserves a game IMO. I can see why he is going with Sanchez though since they are not making the playoffs and they have to see how he plays the last 4 games so they can make a decision.

Thursday games have been sloppy all season but Peyton Manning just demands that the team stay focused and do their homework leading up to it. The less time a team has to gameplan against Peyton, the more he is just going to pick them apart.

Aren't the Raiders also like out of corners. I heard they lost like 3 guys to injury at the position and could barely get guys to play the position by the end of their last game. If they have a secondary consisting of backup players to what is already a big time weakness it could be tough to stop Manning.
Although I expect this one could be a bit closer than it should because of the road team on a short week who already won their Division. I expect the Bronco's to win, but could be something like 21-13 and Denver's game plan is get in, get the win, and get out relatively healthy.

It's just nice the Raiders were finally able to scrape together a couple bucks and get grass for the entire field. Looks pretty good.
