Default iPhone 5 Case Recommendations [Split]

I need a recommendation for a protective case for my new iPhone 5. I thought I'd wait for a nice one from Dealfind, Groupon, etc. but in the meantime I'm nervous that I might scratch the phone so I'd better not wait. Any ideas?

http://www.monoprice.com/products/se...=iphone+5+case

Wouldn't be surprised if it took a couple weeks shipping in Dec, but can't beat the price.

Make sure you check the reviews on each case though. It is so hard to tell which ones are good or not based almost solely on picture.

As for a really good case, I would suggest Lifeproof unless you are always using your headphones (since to maintain complete waterproof, it requires an annoying headphone adapter). Pretty expensive though...

Some great prices there. Which one do you have?

I think I ordered this one on Monday, for my Galaxy S3 that arrives in the next couple days...

Obviously not relevant to you though.

Several family members have cases from Monoprice though, for the iPhone 4 and 4s, and are generally satisfied. In every case, I suggested they order a couple that most closely seemed to fit their needs and then pick the best one from that. It has seemed to be a good strategy, since their first pick was not always the one they ended up using.

My experience with the Lifeproof case is through my uncle, who received a case for free to test from the manufacturer due to his job in the media, and he said it was really as good as it was claimed, but the headphone adapter was really annoying.

Split this from the "Quick Question" thread. As mentioned in the guidelines of that thread- the odds that there would be several people with iPhones or case recommendations is pretty high.

Personally, I bought this case. It obviously isn't the toughest case out there, but it keeps the iPhone nice and slim which is what I like.

I bought this one: http://www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/produ...c9ae3760c4en02

I like it. It's a soft silicone. It has some texture on the sides to give you something to grip on to, which is my main reason for using a case since I'm a klutz.

I've heard your rationale on this before, and it makes sense. The problem is if you drop your phone or something within the first couple months owning it, you're stuck with a ghetto looking phone for another couple years. I'm not a fan of cases, but they are necessary.

Cheap ones really are the way to go. I got a couple from amazon for $3 each including shipping.

You've got a good point. I also can't fathom why someone would ever want to spend more than $3 to protect an $800 phone from getting physically damaged.

You've got a good point, I also cannot Fathom why someone would spend $800 on a phone and not realize that it needs to be treated like a fragile item.

The phones casing is made of glass and aluminum, dropping them will result in the same type of outcome as dropping an expensive watch or sunglasses yet you don't see people getting otterboxes to put on their wrists or faces.

Long story short people get the protection they feel they need, if a $3 case is good for someone who doesn't throw their phone around so be it.

Conversely, put it in a case and you've got what? Only a semi-ghetto looking phone for the next few years.

Besides, wear and tear can look good:

To be honest those 3 dollar cases are quite similar to many of the ones people have purchased for $20 it's not outer box obviously but it works well unless u constantly drop your phone. Being at a desk job all day.. That isn't the case for me so a $3 case works more then fine.

Except a watch or glasses are secured tightly to your body. An iPhone isn't. And when those things are not securely tightly to my body I put them in a case for safekeeping.
