With the movie selection available, Netflix certainly is more of "Browse for something watchable" instead of "Let's see if that movie I want to watch is on Netflix".

I've found quite a few enjoyable movies, but I've also spent quite a bit of time browsing for something suitable. Really, I think it is 1000% more useful for TV shows. I'd gladly continue paying $8/month just for the TV show selection. It's awesome to have a full series (or at least full season) of TV to plough through at your own pace. Not only is it cheaper than buying one season of a TV show for 40-$60, Netflix is tons more convenient. With Netflix, in one day I can watch content on my Netflix enabled TV, Xbox on my other TV, my PC and my iPad. Incredibly convenient, and no discs to fumble around with.

I don't think I'm alone in thinking that Netflix is most useful for TV. I'd like to see them start advertising that a little bit more, maybe mentioning some of the premium TV content available. E.g.
  • The Walking Dead
  • Breaking Bad
  • Mad Men
  • Dexter
  • Sherlock (Season 2 just added)
  • Futurama
  • Community
  • Arrested Development
  • Lost
  • The Office
  • Archer

Someone at home will see "Hmm...that Breaking Bad show that I always hear about is on Netflix. I've always wanted to watch that, but didn't want to pay $10/month to add AMC on my cable bill. Are you telling me for $8/month I can watch the whole show, commercial free, at my own pace...and also get access to thousands of other movies and TV shows?"

I still find it is incredible value.

This is true, but the bad stream quality puts me off of a lot of those things. Lost in HD looks fantastic. Lost on Netflix looks not nearly so good. I almost feel as if I'm missing some kind of menu in the options the video quality for the majority of the stuff is so bad.

You can manage video quality in your Account Settings. That being said, Mad Men playing in HD doesn't look anywhere near as good as my Mad Men Blu Rays.

Hmm, I just tried LOST on Netflix and the picture quality was terrible. So it looks like it isn't an HD stream, which is crappy. I think most of the modern shows are in HD.

There IS an option that affects the stream quality. You'll want to go into your account settings (on the web site) and ensure 'Best Quality' is selected.

It's too bad that when you start watching, it shows the crappiest quality until the better quality stream is buffered. I would rather wait 15 seconds after I hit play and have it start in the best quality stream instead of slowly spinning up.

Biggest issue is a ton of shows don't show in HD on a PC but do on a streaming device.

I put the video quality up all the way before but it's still pretty bad video quality for the majority of things, and I honestly don't see that much of a difference between the different streaming options. That's what makes me feel as if I'm missing something else. It seems only a handful of things have HD streams on the site, so far as I can tell.

Watching Lost right now (don't spoil anything, please), and apart from the occasional regression due to my connection, it looks pretty damn good to me.

EDIT: Watching it streamed through my Xbox.

I agree on the TV bit. I have watched a few movies on there, but usually more of the "family" variety with the kids.

On the TV side, I watched "Heros" awhile ago and really enjoyed it, followed by Bones (a show I had only maybe seen one of and never really got into before watching it from the start), Sherlock (which is great) and now starting Dexter (which has me totally hooked and I have gone through season 1 in about a week). Mad Men and Breaking Bad are on the list too. Oh, Firefly, I forgot that - watched all the episodes along with Serenity (the movie) in probably 2 weeks.

Ya, it's not perfect and there are certainly movies I want to see that aren't in NetFlix, but for $8 a month it has been well worth it. Aside from current episodes of Walking Dead, I probably watch NetFlix for $8 a month more than my TV (at over $100 a month, but that includes internet and phone too so...)

I personally think it is so good we are discussing getting it for the wife's parents (retired fairly non-technical couple) for Christmas.

The episode where he "rampages" in season 2 was by far the best of any in the first two seasons. I was constantly laughing as there were so many good parts.

I've never had quality issues with Netflix and I stream off the PS3. They are most definitely in HD for me!

Great to see Star Trek TNG in there. The seasons are really expensive to buy otherwise.

Not the Blu Ray remastered version though. It's still in SD.

They wouldn't sell a whole lot if they offered that on Netflix.

When I run out of things to watch on the Canadian one I will do that. I watched all of Breaking Bad and i'm half way through Mad Men right now. I'm sure it will be a while before I run out.

Watched Heroes season one again, pretty good.
Started watching season two, remembered why I stopped watching years back.

With US Netlfix, I find Survivorman entertaining, along with some other documentary type shows.

Watched Battlestar Galactica finally this past year, amazing show that got a bit embarrassing for quality of writing right at the end, when it could have counted a lot.

A great find was Sliders, some pretty entertaining, old school entertainment, although some of the last couple episodes have all involved magic for some reason, which did not occur for the previous season.
