But these complaints are not acting complaints:

Add to that them going God Mode during the shootout scene which was horrendously played out. I haven't seen the bad guys shoot so bad on TV since the A-Team. It was totally unbelievable.
Also too many questions Like how they can sneak into a fortified town that easily? how rick could stand there like an idiot when he saw Shane and not get shot? How Darryl got captured? How the governor turned on Merle and how he knew that Darryl was his brother?
I also like how the unwritten rule that there can only be one male black guy in the group at a time.

I do agree that the gunfight sequence was weak. I couldn't figure out where they were trying to get to. I swear at one point they just reversed the action. i.e. didn't Rick just sidestep walknshoot that way, now he's going back. It was a bit of a mess, but I don't think with a TV series I can't expect a Michael Mann Heat shootout sequence, especially with time constraints on filming so much material in much less time than a movie. I think the budget has gone up this year but I doubt it is at the Game of Thrones level.
There is a bit of hammy stuff at times and I think 'having read the comics' will constantly prejudice your view one way or the other.
You need to constantly check yourself to not compare this to the comics or a show like Game of Thrones that seems to have unlimited time and budget.
|
I have a problem with that. TV has progressed far from the A-Team and Macguyver. With 24 and Lost and Breaking Bad we have tremendous and intense gunfights and action scenes rivaling movie levels. The zombie killings are top notched, not sure why that gun fight scene looked so lame assed.
haha. i guess you didn't read my rant on game of thrones action scene at the end of last season. That was rather Krull like... hehe

From the preview,
Andrea has got to be the world's most colossal screw up. Always manages to come to completely the opposite position of where she should be. If the Governator has gone full blown evil in his revenge-buzz against Mich, what is her purpose there? She wasn't moderating his assholism before, it's all out in the open in front of her, so what can she possibly accomplish now? The only think that makes sense is for her to get the hell out of Dodge (i.e. Woodbury) and back to Rickistan.

Pretty impressive numbers for the mid-season finale:

Quote:
The midseason finale of AMC's "The Walking Dead," "Made to Suffer" aired on Sunday, December 2 and drew an unprecedented number of viewers, causing a record 15.2 million viewers total for the night. According to a press release from the network, "The Walking Dead" is the first cable series in television history to beat all broadcast and cable entertainment series, including "The Voice, "Modern Family," "X Factor," "Two and a Half Men," "The Big Bang Theory" and "Grey's Anatomy."
The 15.2 million viewers who tuned in are a combination of the 10.5 million who watched the 9:00 P.M. premiere, the 3.6 million who tuned in at 10:00 PM and the 1.1 million gained during the midnight encore of the episode. According to AMC, "The Walking Dead" to date is the number one ad supported drama series in the history of basic cable among total viewers. The network also announced that the "Talking Dead" post-"The Walking Dead" show will extend to one-hour beginning Sunday, February 10.

What I keep mulling over in my head is how the hell are Merle and Darryl going to get out of this? I mean, there's probably close to 80 people there. How are they just going to escape?
Also, I don't get the dislike of Michonne in this thread. She's probably my second favourite character next to Darryl. She's got the hardened, say-only-what-you-need-say, ice cold killer mannerisms/facial expression down pat. Plus, she's damn fine.
Anyways, I loved the episode. But I agree there were parts that were kind of lame in the fighting scene. February can't come soon enough.

I'm not sure I totally buy all the criticism about the big Woodbury/Rick and the Gang shoot-out. It's a lot easier to snipe rotting, tottering zombies that won't shoot back than a bunch of fairly hardened survivors that know their way around firearms. Remember that Michonne said that there were no real military guys at Woodbury, add the smoke, the fear, etc... and you can see why all the bullets were flying and no one was getting hit.

Rick and crew plus smoke bombs equals escape for Darryl. Not sure what happens with Merle though.
Just a guess.

I think Darryl and Merle will have a moment of family values, but Merle soon after gets left behind / bitten / killed by the Govenor. The show pulls no stops in booting prominent supporting cast members (e.g. Shane, Dale), and the Governor has not yet had his "murderous" crazy moment that would put him over the edge as a stone-cold killer.
So in other words, Merle gets waxed with the candlestick in the bedroom in short order.

The brothers are going to be pitted against each other in a zombie circle deathmatch. Merle will redeem himself by dying to save his brother. His character is too far gone with the stuff he pulled on the main group to fit in with them.
Still not sure how Darryl's getting out of there though.

Sounds crazy enough to actually work out, I definitely agree with you about Merle being too far gone with the Prison group...

I think Merle is too far gone to even sacrifice himself for his brother. I think he tries to sic a walker on him and bolt. Rick and company will rescue Daryl.
I haven't seen anything up to this point to see Merle do anything selfless. It would be completely out of character. It's not like Darth Vader in ROTJ, where you could see him softening up a bit.

Can anyone explain something to me? They materialize inside Woodbury all sneaky-like, and then instead of going back out the same way they need to shoot their way out?
Can't be sure, but the building from where they toss the smoke grenades from looked to be where they entered the town.

Agreed that Rick's group probably has a lot more skill with weapons than the majority of the Woodbury militia. However, you still gotta think one or two of them would be decent.
I think the gaps between them sneaking in and sneaking out were the big problem with that scene though. Poof! Now we're safe. Was unbelievable and even hard to follow at points.

If you think back to the start of the series and how much training Rick and his crew have done with guns, it also makes a lot of sense.
They are all trained to snipe heads off moving targets, while on the move themselves. The guys on the wall get scared when a walker gets within 100 feet. And they are armed to the teeth, on a wall, 15 feet above it. Now imagine if you have some dood zig zagging at you, in a cloud of smoke, and he just picked the head off of the guy beside you.. that is a bit different then any form of 'walker training' these woodbury guys might have had. Their pants were probably so full of piss they weren't even trying to aim.

^^ Are these the same Woodbury guys who take on a fully armed squad of US Army soldiers?
I think an earlier poster had it right. They have stormtrooper syndrome, in addition to the zombie virus.

^^^ Yeah, that crossed my mind too. And not just the soldiers we saw killed, it was hinted that they had done that kind of thing before and maybe even often.
There had to be SOME good shots and soldiers in that group...
