Also Florida and Oregons last games were meaningless in the current system, yet would have been huge in a 4 game playoff system. So in fact more games are likely meaningful in a 4 game playoff system.

Well all I'll say about the playoffs argument is, Florida went 11-1 and beat 4 top 10 teams, and they have zero shot at a national title under this system. That's fair?

And maybe regular season games will matter just a tiny bit less, but it'll still be by far the most intense regular season in North American sports, even one loss and you're now mixed in a large group of 1 loss teams where you could easily miss the 4 team cut. I think the positives greatly outweigh the negatives.

Anyway, as for the ND game, that goal line stand was unreal! D been doing it all year. O needs to finish those drives, way too much stalling in the red zone. Can't do that against Bama/Georgia.

Considering the quality of those "top 10" teams yes.

The LSU win was good the FSU and South Carolina wins decent but those teams aren't that good and get the benefit of being over ranked.

If they were to play a huge play-off system where the top 10 ranked right now played each other now I would expect Florida to lose to everyone but FSU.

You may be right. But I guess we'll never know for sure. And that's where the endless speculation comes in..

I think the whole playoff question is how it is structured and do you reward conference champions. Florida and Oregon didn't even make their conference title games. Sure they lost just 1 game but they lost the wrong game, this happens in sports all the time. In tournaments that have round-robin play, sometimes a team that went 4-0 or 5-0 in the round robin loses their first knockout game to a team that was 3-2.

Say there's an 8 team playoff. Surely the 6 BCS conference winners would have to get in. Are Florida and Oregon then the 2 wildcards despite not being in their own final? If one of the BCS conference winners doesn't make it in then there's no point having conferences.

E. Georgia is pretty much the only team with a shot of making it that I would semi-cheer for

meaningless about 3 hours after they beat their rival when USC couldn't beat ND.

Also if Florida didn't lose to UGA they wouldn't be in this spot, showing that every game matters.

Glorious day!

Jon Embree is out at as Colorado football coach after just two seasons. The Buffs were 4-21 in Embree's two seasons and this past season went 1-11, the worst year in Colorado football history.
Not sure I like Jon's comments regarding getting fired. Race card? No man, you just were a really terrible coach.

I don't like the race card part, but he has a point otherwise. That program was garbage when he took it over, to expect much to change in 2 years is a little ridiculous.

Being an alumni of the school, it is so great to see SJSU ranked in the top 25 in the BCS rankings!

I wouldn't go that far. Wisconsin, who have looked dreadful, beat Utah St. and La. Tech beat Illinois in the only games between the two. Those top 3 WAC teams are solid, but they'd be middle of the road teams even in this down season of the Big Ten.

I have been hearing rumors about the SEC targeting UNC and Duke. I've been against expansion and was hoping that if the SEC had to get bigger that they would go after basketball and academic schools.

With UNC and Duke you get two elite Basketball schools, two AAU school, so the SEC would be the best football conference, very good basketball conference and would have 6 schools that are AAU. (Mizzou, TAMU, Vandy, Florida, UNC, Duke)

What would be the benefit for Duke and UNC?

They would get slaughtered at football and take a big downgrade in basketball. I know there is always money involved so maybe the move would be a big payday for them but outside of having a cupcake basketball schedule it would seem to be a fairly shortsighted move for money to ruin their basketball history.

Although I guess if the move is going to be to 4 superconferences cutting out the ACC and Big East might as well move now than try and fit in after everyone else has moved.

The benefit would be that they wouldn't be left behind to languish in obscurity. The ACC is clearly going to fall into the second tier, staying there because it's currently a decent basketball conference would be pure idiocy. Both teams already get slaughtered at football, and to be honest results on the field/court have nothing to do with any of this.

The ACC is about to fall into Big East land here soon.

Yep, the writing is really on the wall, it's 4 conferences that are going to run this, and even the Big 12 needs to be careful as they are heavily reliant on Texas. Pretty much all of the major assets are either spoken for or on the move, it's time to find a dance partner if you're someone like UNC or Duke. There are a few programs out there that will be interesting to watch, Miami, FSU, Va Tech and BC all bring something to the table, but don't seem to have been targeted (or possibly are trying to hold the ACC together). I think BC would be a good fit in the Big Ten.

One interesting element here is that the academic standing of schools seems to have been a major part of at least some of these moves. Maryland and Rutgers are desirable not just for their markets, which are obviously important, but because they are huge research schools.

I've always heard that the SEC was targeting Virginia Tech and NC State. Duke and UNC would certainly be interesting additions, and certainly worthwhile in basketball and academic standing.

They may have to upgrade the quality of their tailgate.
