In an informal search, here's a list of 92 or younger births I can find at a near PPG pace and over 15 points.

Sven Baertschi (Oct 92): 6G, 10A in 18 games
Sean Couturier (Dec 92): 6G, 9A in 15 games
Nino Niederreiter (Oct 92): 9G, 9A in 17 games
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins (Jan 93): 9G, 12A in 17 games
Mike Sgarbossa (Feb 92): 8G, 9A in 19 games
Justin Faulk (May 92): 3G, 14A in 16 games
Brett Connolly (May 92): 6G, 10A in 17 games
Jason Zucker (Jan 92): 9G, 6A in 14 games

One thing that stands out for me is that two of the youngest players making in the AHL are doing extremely well (Baertschi, Niederreiter). I know the latter doesn't qualify as a rookie, but they're still doing amazing given their surrounding team and age (Baertschi more so in my mind - Niederreiter has a strong field of young prospects around him). What was Portland feeding these guys?

Okay, I'm getting a little frustrated now.

The Flames just got torn apart on by Pierre McGuire on TH. And who gets the most praise during the entire segment? The Oilers, for going out and making changes during the off-season.

The following segment was a massive Oilers AHL lovefest and the dominance of their 4 players, Klefbom in Europe, and Yakupov for Russia.

Zero mention in the Flames segment of the Heat being the top team in the AHL or the successes of Baertschi or Gaudreau, who is well on his way to being the NCAA MVP.

LOL they even mentioned Boston College and their dominance, but no mention of Gaudreau.

What changes did the Oilers go out and make during the offseason?

McGuire is one of those guys that, once he forms an opinion, is difficult to move off of it. That said an early season winning streak of our AHL team isn't enough to sway me to believe that the future of the Flames is a bright one. Neither is having a couple of potential prospects.

I would rather have the Rangers roster and Kreider then I would Gaudreau. I would rather have Boston's roster and Seguin then Baertschi. And if I didn't have a playoff team I would love to boast of having Hall, Yakupov, RNH, Eberle, Schultz, caliber guys in my system.

But this isn't the thread for that dreary discussion. McGuire is conveniently forgetting about key guys in the Flames system to make a point. Either that or he lacks the knowledge. Either way, boo him. I am going back to watching Gaudreau dominate the NCAA and Baertschi playing like a vet in his first year.

Utah played last Friday & Saturday. Lost both games by scores of 1-5 and 4-5 to Alaska. Wahl got a goal and an assist and Howse managed an assist in the second game. Wahl did have 7 shots on goal with Howse having 3 on Saturday.
Wahl now has 13 points in 13 games (4 goals 9 assists)
Howse has 5 points in 14 games
The grizzlies have been plagued with injury woes this season. They only dressed 8 forwards and 5 defensemen for Saturday.

Pierre 'Regis' McGuire's career NHL coaching record: 23-37-7...

How does this guy get consideration for GM jobs? His bluster can be entertaining on TV, but I really cannot see this guy matching wits with the likes of Lou Lamoiello.

If the NHL is locked out all season, wouldn't Irving become UFA? I read somewhere that he requires 20-something games at the NHL level (does back-up count even when he doesn't come in), and if he doesn't get those 20-something starts, he turns UFA. Is that correct? If being Kipper's backup sitting on the bench doesn't count towards those starts, then it would seem Irving will be UFA next season, if the NHL resumes. Very doubtful that with a shortened season, he would get even close to the required games (if that is accurate, anyways).

Also, has anyone seen Ramage play much this season? One of the supposed reasons he hasn't turned pro yet is to work on his skating. Is this true? With our more or less 'limited' number of immediate defensive help coming up the pipeline (Breen's and Wotherspoon's vast improvements notwithstanding), I had Ramage pegged for a 5/6 defencemen right out of Wisconsin. Were my expectations too high?

I am guessing Patterson, Cameron and Larson won't be qualified, and curious about what will happen to Wahl - from almost making the Flames out of camp, to seeming 'pariah' for a bit.

I watched that show and he was talking about which Canadian team had the worst chance to make the playoffs in a shortened season. Quite frankly i agree with him. Calgary has the worst chance on a shortened season to make the playoffs. Aged superstars, new coach, new system, barely any training camp, and no pre season games will make it super tough.

The most ridiculous part of it however was the reasons he gave for Vancouver being at an advantage because of a shortened season was the same reasons he gave for why Calgary is at a disadvantage. Aging core apparently will make it very difficult for Calgary, but having a shortened season will allow Vancouver's aging core to be at the top of their game the whole year!

Looks like that report that was posted here a few weeks ago had some truth to it:

Winterhawks response
http://www.winterhawks.com/article/w...ons-suspension

Quote:
What follows is a summary of the league’s findings, and a statement from Johnston:

The Winterhawks were found to have committed the following violations:

•###### A player contract signed in 2009, involving flights for the player’s family and a summer training program
•###### Over the last five years, seven families were provided flights 2-4 times per season based on financial need and their distance from Portland
•###### Twice in the last five years the team paid for two players to each have a one-week summer training regimen
•###### The Winterhawks provided a cell phone for its team captain for a period of three seasons

The WHL’s audit found no violations involving monetary payments made to players, their families or agents, or any violations related to the league’s educational packages.

If what Portland is claiming is true, I wonder what kind of penalties would have been incurred if they had directly paid a player

The OHL ended up reducing Windsor's penalties somewhat. Hopefully that will happen here as well.

Well, their development just got nerfed.. hope they can find some gems in the later rounds. It seems just. Silly thing for portland to do.
