Yeah, it seemed to serve virtually no point. They run into the cabin and 30 seconds later, run out of it. I thought Michonne only stabbed him in the shoulder, too? Seems pretty cold to throw him to the herd of walkers like that.

The point was to escape from the walkers.
The hermit was going to open the door to get away, Michonne knifes him and they use him as a distraction to get away. If they didn't those walkers would follow them all the way to Woodbury and give them away.

the whole group of walkers chasing them to the cabin served no part though. seems like all that was put in there for was to eat up time

I 100% agree. If they had stayed true to the source material (TWD comics) with the way the Governor found out about "the prison", it would be crossing multiple LINES for TV broadcast. I really like how they hinted at it, but then ultimately decided to play it safe with the outcome of that scene.

I expect to see a main character die next week. I wouldn't be surprised also if Rick gets severely wounded - like from Andrea shooting him accidentally. That would be a cliffhanger for a mid-season ending.

Did anyone find it strange that Michonne didn't even touch on who captured Glenn and Maggie? I get that they are trying to delay Darryl from finding out that Merle is still alive, as I am sure that will play a large role later on as the season goes. But, wouldn't the identity of the captor have come up in the conversation at some point?

^^ No. She knows it's somebody in the prison's brother. She wants to launch an assault on Woodbury; if she says "the person had one hand missing and asked the Asian kid about his brother"- then they will know who they are talking about. Michonne also hasn't seen the first two seasons of the show, so she likely assumes that the two groups might want to come together peacefully.
She needs a militia; and keeping that part to herself allows for it.
