What year was your house built? Those look like poly-b water pipes which tend to degrade and leak over time.

The house is 20 years old. I think I'll turn down the water temperature to compensate for that. Thanks for the warning.

My neighbor had his Poly-B let go. It wasn't pretty.

I've heard it is has plastic fitting, the failure rate is higher. My inspector told me because my pipes have copper fitting, they should be fine.

My Mom sold her house in Signal Hill because her friend's place started leaking...most walls and ceiling ripped out to trace all the pipes and ended up costing her an arm and a leg...mom got scared and bailed.

Isn't this why you have insurance? I always thought my payday on my properties was for when the polyb went my 1000 deductible would buy me a new house

Yeah but my mom just couldn't live with the ticking time bomb.

HVAC question....should the cold air returns be brought down or left in the ceilings for basements?...if left in the ceiling wouldn't it draw out all your heat during the winter? I see it beneficial in the summer but most basements are pretty cool in our climate.

Cold Air Return be brought down is better but at extra cost. When I sell the house, whether the cold air return is down or up in the basement won't make a difference to the buyer so I didn't pay extra to do it.

the gas is pretty cheap overall compared to the entire basement cost, but for a fireplace your looking at about $ 3000 installed that not including your permit fromthe city,
make sure you get permit! spam
