2 questions/

1) I see a lot of ads in home improvement flyers with cordless drill and impact driver combos. I only really need a new cordless drill for around-the-house stuff. What would I need an impact driver for, and why are they packaged together in these deals from Home Depot or Rona, etc?

2) I have been using Text 2 Park to activate and deactivate parking sessions successfully, but I am not receiving the text confirmation back like in the demonstation video or anything. Anybody else have a similar problem?

Lee Valley doesn't have them anymore and I need one for a Christmas present I'm making.

Is there anywhere in Calgary that I can get kangaroo steaks?

Busy Bee Tools carries them. Whether they're in stock in Calgary I'm not sure, but they have a couple different options:

A driver is better for putting screws into wood; like for framing or decking. You can use a drill; but a driver just works a little better.

A seperate drill and impact driver is nice to have. Copied this from on line.

"The impact driver is the drill that gets all the attention these days. Its not a hammer drill and its not a regular drill. It even looks different with a smaller stubby profile and a hex socket in place of the chuck. So what’s the deal with this thing? Lets consider another analogy. Imagine you have a pair of vise grips attached to the shank of your drill bit. Now instead of someone just whacking the back of the drill, they are also hitting the wrench to spin the bit. This results in a significant increase in torque and better control.It also means you are much less likely to strip screw heads and you can drive very long screws with little effort. The drill truly is doing all the work and the impact action kicks in automatically when its needed. The drawback here is that you don’t always know when its going to kick in. So it might be risky to use this drill on your fancy brass hardware. But if you are driving screws for cabinet installs, general construction or DIY projects, this drill is amazing. It may not seem like a big deal, but it's also nice to not have to keep switching back and forth between drill bits and drivers if you have just one drill.

Is anyone familiar with Richard Dawkins' book The Magic of Reality? I've read about it online but maybe someone has read it and can answer these questions:

1. How much of it is an attack on faith vs. discussions about science?
2. For what age group would this be appropriate? I've heard it's more for younger people (maybe ages roughly 10 to early 20s).

I considered starting a thread for this but felt there would be less risk of this degenerating into a science-versus-faith debate if I posted it here. Thanks for any answers folks can provide to my questions.

Is it worth it to use fabric softener? Apparently my dad is allergic to the stuff so we never used it when I lived at home and I've just kinda never used it in my life.

Not worth it.... just makes your clothes even more smellier than what soap does and I don't think it makes it softer IMO.
I use dryer sheets if I'm drying sweaters just to get rid of static cling, but that's it.

My wife is allergic to some brands of fabric softener, so for the first ~4 years we were married we never used it. Then we found a bounce brand that didn't cause her problems, so we tried it.

She loves it and I hardly notice the difference, except with static-y things..

I actually like using Downy- any other brand sucks though. A couple of tips:

- Use about 1/4 of what the label says. I've actually taken to diluting mine as my wife likes to use a capful.
- Don't use it if you have a stain on something. If the stain doesn't come out in the first wash, the softener will make it harder to get out the second time through.

That's a biggie right there. I used to use what it called for and hated using it. I cut it back and now I won't do a load without it.

use vinegar instead. it will soften the clothes just the same as fabric softener, but won't leave any residue behind (especially important for towels, as traditional fabric softener will reduce their absorbancy after time). and there's no odor after going through the dryer

I've tried vinegar and it doesn't do anything for static. That's a bigger problem than softening IMO.
