I'm not sure what elements are being added to the 1CalgaryCentre YouTube Channel. Right now there's just two clips of Joan's answers... including her "CBC p0rn channel" comment.
Did anyone else check out the green party rally last night? David Suzuki, Jay Ingram, and Elizabeth May were there giving speeches.
It was all over twitter and facebook last night, but I didn't watch the live stream.
From the sounds of things it was a massive success in getting the Green Party faithful revved up. Something like 500 tickets were sold.
My personal take after seeing the gushing about it online, was that it was a bit too "green" for my liking. I know that sounds stupid, but the one thing about Turner's campaign so far that I've really appreciated is sharp the departure away from the stereotypical notion of The Green party and a more focused approach on Turner as a standalone candidate. They've done a great job of steering the message to a more moderate sustainable approach. Pulling out Jay Ingram and David Suzuki is a great strategy to get hardcore green supporters fired up, but if you're working on pulling Red Tories away from Crockatt, I'm not sure it's the best strategy.
That being said, from a campaign standpoint it was a success, we'll see if it spills out as an attack from the CPC.
If I was a green party candidate the last people that I would want to show up to support me would be Elizabeth (Throw the rest of my candidates under the bus) Ray, and David (Really I'm in this for the money) Suzuki

I'm with you on Elizabeth May, but I think you're waaay off the mark with David Suzuki. That is the first guy I'd want at my event.

David Suzuki is really in it for the money? Beyond being an irrational vacant grump, how could anyone arrive to this conclusion?
Inside the Turner campaign bubble there's incredible enthusiasm and optimism that this is their moment. It's quite infectious. It remains to be seen how big that bubble actually is in the next poll

He's been very careful to point out that he disagrees with May on a number if issues and is free to do so. He's almost running the same sort of nonaligned campaign that Nenshi did. I agree that Elizabeth May is not going to help him in this riding.
On twitter yesterday the claim was they sold 1000 tickets. From the pictures I saw it looked more like 200. The pictures could've been just part of a room or whatever, hard to say for sure.
IF they actually sold 1000 and had the many people therefrom the riding, its over;Turner wins in a landslide. More than likely though 1000 was pure exaggeration and he sold a few hundred. That's good, but not amazing by any stretch.
You say Canada's oil consumption and production rates are equal, and therefore a West to East pipeline makes Northern Gateway unnecessary. But what about the other hundres of thousands of barrels per day of production that Calgarians are developing?
I was quite impressed by the calibre of all three of the candidates that participated in today's Cities Matter debate. Good to see.
The next polling numbers will be very interesting. I'm going to guess that Harvey Locke pulls slightly ahead of Crockatt. I just think that if her soft red-tory support is floundering, it'll most likely go to Locke. People love sending messages in by-elections.
Lots and lots of enthusiasm in the Turner campaign, I wonder how much that translates into support. He's a very strong candidate.

I attended the event and would guess there was 400-500 people. It filled the Scarboro United Church, plus a number of people standing and others in the mess hall. 1000 does seem like an exaggeration.
On second thought they had a after party, and were live feeding the event to the Legion downtown. So yeah there could have been 1000 people combined.

The question is whether the message is gonna be "we're ready to matter to the Liberal party" or "we're fed up with the Conservatives, but we still won't vote Liberal". If it's the latter, then the Conservatives really don't have much to worry about in 2015.
(Turner seems like he might be the better candidate, but I think it would be better for Calgary to elect a Liberal than a Green.)
