I hope not. I don't trust Buck and his sub-.200 average as the everyday catcher and not sure if d'Arnaud is ready. I think with this lineup it shouldn't be too hard to sign a pretty solid 4/5.

Melky was not welcome back in the Giants' clubhouse, even though he was eligible for the playoffs. Posey seemed particularly done with him.

One more starter now and this team will just need to stay healthy in order to make an impact.

Yeah, if AA can add one more arm, even a good #5 guy this team will be pretty awesome.

I wish the season started tomorrow.

Rumours that the Blue Jays might sign Shaun Marcum and he has interest in rejoining the club..

I think the need for a 5th starter is not really a priority. Between Happ, Drabek and Cecil I think there should be an option in there.

Bodog had the Jays winning it at 14-1 prior to Melky signing. Now at 11-1 odds.

Well that would be sweet, but I would have to think that something else would have to be fairly significant. Dickey might be old, but being a KB'er (that also has a fairly low # of major league innings on his arm) he could potentially pitch another 5-8 years. Not only that but coming off of three straight very solid seasons (and now a Cy Young) he is likely going to command a lot of interest. And all that said, I am not totally sold on the fact that Dickey would see the same success he has in the past, in the ALE.

Assuming they have a bit more money to spend (why not!) I'd prefer they try and trade JPA for prospects and sign someone like Edwin Jackson or Marcum if he'll sign. Or, if you want to trade with the Mets (as they need a C) for a pitcher then go after Jonathon Niese. I would guess he'd cost as much, if not a bit less then Dickey, will be commanding less interest, is locked up for five years and is 26 years old coming off a strong season.

Doesn't mean he still doesn't have interest in re-joing the Jays if they tried to contact him...

This is all so exciting. Marcum's getting up there in age, but as a #4 or #5 guy, that'd be awesome. I still don't want the Jays to give up on guys like Hutchison or Drabek though.

The reason why I'd give up a bit of a premium for Dickey is that it would really screw up oppositions timing.

Having the rotation set up

Johnson
Dickey
Morrow
Buerhle
Romero

would have a fireballer, followed by a knuckleballer, followed by a fireballer, followed by a mid 80's pitcher, followed by Romero.

It would be really hard for teams to adjust to the speed differences from each of the guys and would make it just that much more difficult. Add in the great pen full of high K/9 guys and it would be pretty much as good of a staff as one could realistically get and we wouldn't have to give up a ton due to Dickey's age (JPA + Carreno + Jenkins or Sierra might be enough)

Those two likely won't be healthy until July/August at the earliest, so if you let them resume in Buffalo, you can call them up for some innings in September while getting full value from your rotation all the way through the year.

I like your line of thinking, I am just personally a bit scared to give up assets for a 38 year KB'er (despite him being a very solid pitcher) who only has a single year left on his deal. But with that being said, if we only had to give up the guy's your suggesting and no more of our top 10, then I'd probably be down for it. Still though, if the prices are similar, I would probably prefer Niese.

He is the absolute worst. he makes Eklund look like the most insightful human alive. He is a 12 year old kid who was proven to have less then a 1% margin for his predictions. He is the worst sports troll on twitter and people actually follow and retweet him and it takes years off my life.

I like the Marcum idea; still more starting pitching needed I think. He mentioned on radio not too long ago - but before this flurry of activity - that he would potentially be open to returning. So who knows.

Geoff Blair talked about how much the Jays soured on Marcum and how there's 0 chance of him coming back. Sounds like he suffered a lot from the 40 0Z flu while in Toronto. That doesn't mean it's not possible but I don't know why they'd want him, injury risks and all. Much rather them go after a more complete arm.

The Melkey signing is awesome. He was the NL MVP last year before he got suspended and his contract would have been 5 years 14 million AT Least had he finished out the season. This contract is incredibly team friendly, gives the Jays an incredible lineup they can put together and they didn't give up an asset. Amazing
