I have sold a TON of stuff on Kijiji. From hockey tickets, to motorcycles The biggest transaction I did was selling Hayabusa for $12,000, and I simply met the guy at his bank, and went to the counter with him to witness the teller cut the draft. I sold a guitar to a guy, and when we met, and he decided he wanted it, he sent me an email money transfer, and we just had a coffee and chatted Flames while we waited for it to go through. It blows me away that Kijiji has stayed on a free model given how incredibly effective it is. I have paid for featured on a few of my bigger adds, simply because I felt so satisfied with other transactions I have done, and wanted to pay it forward a bit.

As long as you insist on cash, and set the ground rules for the transaction in your add, you are golden. As far as ebay goes.... never again. I have been burned twice buying on ebay, where the buyer claims they shipped it, and I got nothing.

I take chances on Kijiji all the time. I collect coins and often deal with people in other countries through Kijiji and Craigslist, but I know the risks. I won't send more money than I am prepared to lose. I received some really awesome coins from a person in Romania this year, but then was ripped off by someone in England. I think in total, I ended up slightly ahead though.

I've told him straight up that I will accept only cash, will not be moving the tv for him, and will meet him in a public area and then drive to my house. Something about it is just rubbing me the wrong way.
Heh, reminds me of...

I love kijiji, buy and sell all the time plus it's a great place to post job ads.

I would be much more concerned about the people who put their entire family history on facebook then I would about putting your postal code on kijiji.

Maybe she is Scottish and her husband's first name is Beverly

When I sell on Kijiji I always say "Cash Only" but I still get a half a dozen scammers text me or email me claiming they want to buy it from me. The scammers are so easy to spot. They're always overly friendly, they always claim to be out of town on business or on a religious mission, and they use the words "God bless" a lot. It's quite funny. Sometimes I mess with them.. i.e. I pretend I am shipping them the item, and they get all excited, and then I play dumb and it frustrates the hell out of scammers.

Dear Mrs. Roth Larry Edward,

I am pleased you decided to choose me to help with the charity work. Charity is very close to my heart as I give away countless hours and dollars to different charities around my city. I know how badly some of them need more money with the holiday season coming up. And to help others with your donation is amazing and we are greatly thankful for this email. Please let me know how I can get this money helping the community right away.

Eagerly awaiting your reply,

I've been using kijiji for the past 4 years and not once have I had any problems with buying/selling.

Just have to use common sense: not giving away your exact address; ask them to phone/text you so you have a number to give to police in case you do get scammed.

When negotiating with a buyer, why do they make a lower offer but add "cash"? For example, "That's a nice TV. 1200 eh? I'll give you 800 cash." It doesn't make sense to me.

Because cash is a no hassle transaction. You don't have to worry about a bad cheque or a bad bank draft.

It still annoys me when someone offers cash like its such a big difference to me. You don't have cash, well you won't be buying my item anyway.

Yah I agree. I can understand when it's a big ticket item, like a car. Asking $20,000, and the buyer has a duffel bag of $16,000, I can see the appeal that it's an easy transaction. But when dealing with 100's of dollars, I don't see the benefit of giving them a discount.

If you get "taken" on Kijiji, then you're a complete moron and deserved it.
Sounds too good to be true? Then it is.

I've bought and sold dozens of items, with zero issues what so ever.
