New NBC boss is apparently not happy with the direction of their Thursday night comedies.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/1...n_2129796.html

This network is absolutely ######ed.
God please let Community and Parks and Rec be picked up by REAL networks.

How about instead of marketing crap like Animal Practice, you devote even an ounce of effort into these Thursdays shows.

NBC is the worst, this can only prove it even more.

There was a time when NBC gave quality shows a chance to find an audience, and they were rewarded (Hill Street Blues, Cheers, Seinfeld).

It's funny that she says they want to change the types of shows they make, then uses Go On and The New Normal as examples of those changes. I don't really see much difference between those two shows and the other comedies NBC has been making in recent years.

It's unfortunate, but it seems like more and more people want comedies that are simple so that they can miss episodes and still enjoy. Also has to be simple so they can zone out while watching it. I think that's why comedies like big bang theory and modern family are so popular.

Thats my theory too.
Think about someone watching Community while being distracted with something else. You'd miss a lot of the jokes.

It explains why laugh tracks are so popular. The stupid demo's need to be told when to laugh.

Whereas with Community, your full attention is given, and there's still stuff you can miss (the first time I actually noticed Abed delivering that baby...whoa!)

It's just so hard to win when the best rated shows are somewhere between simpleton and pure idiocy. If they fixed the archaic Nielsen system, perhaps it would be better. The people with Nielsen boxes are probably all idiots. It's so easy to gauge these things using social media, but nooo.

That's what I don't get. There's a huge online/cult following, it's one of the most watched shows on netflix, the clips get tons of views on youtube, but let's not pay attention to any of that.

NBC, just when I think you smarten up. You promote some dumb **** to axe Parks & Rec and Community.

Also, Americans who have these Nielson boxes: give them to folks with people who have taste in television.

Are the Nielson boxes in mostly mostly in homes without PVR's? The only reason they make shows is to make money which is mostly done through selling commercials. With the large number of people who download their shows or record them and watch later there is no profit. I know that I haven't seen a commercial in a long time.

Once the boomers bite the dust, Watching regular programming live will be like buying music... rare.

They will need to adapt their business or die. Expect pay-per-channel and product placement to take over.

One thing to remember is that even though shows like Two and a Half Men are "popular", it only averages 15 million viewers. There are 312,000,000 million people in the US. So yes, it is the leader but 297,000,000 people don't watch it.

It really comes down to advertisers finally realizing that 2 million fully engaged, loyal viewers are more important than 15 million people veg'd out on the couch.

You'd think they would conclude that the 1/4 billion people left must be watching something and be trying to figure out ways to capture that market. Id be interested to know how many times each episode of Community has been viewed on Netflix. But the real problem is the networks make no money off of downloads and Netflix. People mention per channel viewing, which should have been implemented years ago, but I think thats already behind the 8 ball. I think going to a per show viewing format (ie pretty much what Neflix does) would better serve them in the long run. I hope Netflix starts taking over these shows ala Arrested Development.

That is my biggest hope.
It's not like it's an expensive show to produce. Chevy Chase, Joel Mchale and Alison Brie are the biggest names on the show and they're far from A listers. If Netflix can make Arrested Development work with Jason Bateman, Michael Cera and Will Arnett then surely they could do the same with Community.

There's also Comedy Central, FX, Showtime, AMC... All of these are capable of doing a fantastic job with the show... All we want is six seasons and a movie!

Chevy Chase is leaving the show:

Community and Chevy Chase are officially parting ways.

TVLine has confirmed that Chase and producers have come to a mutual agreement to have the comedy vet depart to cult NBC comedy effective immediately. Our sister site Deadline first reported the news.

More to come…

Not suprised really...
I'm assuming they've filmed all his scenes already for the upcoming season anyways and I don't think anyone is really expecting a fifth season. Should it get picked up by another network then they'll need to fill that gap somehow though. Pierce is one of the highlights of the show.

To his credit, this is by far the longest he's ever held the same job.

According to the Deadline story, there are still 2 episodes left to shoot for this season, and he won't be appearing in either of them. So, I guess Pierce will die while returning to his home planet.
