Wow, listening to Wilner, and he's saying D'Arnaud is the future equivalent of Buster Posey. And he proceeds to rebut his twitter critics who make fun of him, saying they don't know what they're talking about. While I like D'Arnaud, I think we're overvaluing his bat. He's going to be better than your average catcher, but Buster Posey? Wilner's always been a company man.

Wilner is an idiot, I choose not to listen to him, some great Jays bloggers out there with much better information and context.

Its that comment about twitter that drives me nuts about him. He may be right but anyone (Caller, twitter, email) that doesn't agree with him is an idiot and has no idea what they are talking about.
But you are right outside of maybe Jamie Campbell he is the biggest fanboy out there for the Jays.

McCown has long banned Wilner from his show, even though they work for the same station!

According to Sportsnet, the BoSox had previously made a huge push for Josh Johnson and Reyes...

All of a sudden, the American East has become a tougher division with solid competitive teams. The Jays will have speed and power hopefully this may help them be a playoff team... Now, who will be the lucky manager hired to manage a team full of stars esp a superstar like Reyes.

So, basically the Marlins outbid everyone with backloaded, no no trade clause contracts, and then trrade those contracts for prospects the next year. Basically getting prospects for free. Kind of smart except for the alienating their fans part.

Big time deal for the Blue Jays to get 2 pitchers for their rotation, and a real legit SS. It will be interesting to see Reyes, the Jays haven't really had a hitter like him since Alomar. I think he could hit 20 home runs playing in the AL East parks.
If they could find another good LH hitter with some pop that would really round out the lineup.
Definitely a bold move to be more competitive. Exciting day for fans.

The Marlins got a new stadium and they want to start it off with a bang by spending big. The usual Marlins salary dump (usually after a WS win) started in this off season but this time, it was after a poor attendance ( which didn't help with Guillen supporting Castro) and having one of their worst record ever. So now they start again with prospects while trading away their stars. It has worked for them before...

2nd best or best player in the deal, Johnson, was drafted and developed by them.
I think you make a good point but you could make the argument either way. The Jays signed Alvarez and Hech as free agents. They also basically bought Nicolino and Marisnick by paying way over slot with 2nd and 3rd round picks. They got Mathis for nothing (sorry brad mills).
A few years ago none of those guys were on the Jays roster and none of them even cost a sandwich round pick. You could argue that using cash the Jays traded Escobar, a 2nd and a 3rd rounder for that package.

Isn't there no state income tax in Florida, which entices players to sign for less money. If the Jays were signing these guys they likely have to pay a lot more to do it.
