Yup, both the 8GB and 16GB are listed as sold out now. Hopefully only a day or two before they get more stock in. I honestly don't mind waiting and am pretty patient, just wish they'd done this in a better manner.

I refreshed and saw the Sold out sign, then refreshed again and it went back to the old Coming soon sign. Quality website.

Given that they've either cancelled or pushed back the launch in several countries (some of which weren't slated to get it for weeks) I'd assume they're having a real supply problem. I won't be surprised if it's weeks or months before you can easily buy one.
In a way it's a good PR move to build some hype around the Nexus line, but if they don't sort their supply out it could put a real dent in that. Personally I'd like to buy one and would've this morning, but I'm not going to wait around forever for them to get their stuff together.
On the bright side, I'll get to see real world opinions before I plunk down some cash.

I think they are having the website go back and forth to stop people using scripts to detect changes on the website.

Well I can understand if demand is stronger than forecast, and you sell out quicker than you figured, but why not do the pre-orders, see what kind of demand you have, and adjust accordingly? I don't get it.

I would be willing to bet the division of LG that is producing this phone has been going all out for the last month or so with production. I really doubt LG/Google underestimated demand, they probably knew there was no way they could ever meet demand so what is the point of offering preorder.
Apple has this problem as well, but apple has many more resources under their belt to produce these types of devices as compared to LG.
Could also have to do with suppliers. If LG can only get 500,000 displays by Nov 13, they know they can only complete 500,000 phones and probably that they will sell out immediately.

Well Apple is apparently having supply issues as well.
You have a good point though. Never thought of it like that.

Even if you don't have pre-orders you can still make the site handle the orders in a sane fashion.
A Ticketmaster type system would make sense, you add the phone to your cart it actually allocates it at that point, and only de-allocates it back to the pool if it hasn't been purchased in a reasonable amount of time (Ticketmaster even has a timer I think). You could even have a queue then, if you add to cart and there's none to allocate, but the system knows there's unpurchased phones sitting in carts, it'll put you in line.
You don't even have to make it complicated, just click a button to get a purchase ticket number which is a 1 time use number that lets you purchase the phone. Have that system go live a day before you actually start processing orders, far less load because it's just generating purchase tickets. Then open up the order processing the next day and people can process their order at their leisure, instead of all at once. Tickets that don't get used expire.
Or some other system not off the top of my head that deeper thinking about it can come up with.

Is there a way I can disable my home screen nexus 7 from going landscape? I want it to stay portrait as weird as that sounds

There's an orientation lock setting in the notifications pulldown.

Apparently state side Nexus 4 sold out in the first 45 minutes. Oi.
Just got the 4.2 update for my GNex. Will let people know how things go since my phone is rebooting now.

Yeah, that was the most annoying thing. I randomly checked the Google Play site the moment they were up for sale so I was definitely there early enough but had no luck with multiple attempts to buy the phone in different browsers. I just kept getting error messages.

I seriously don't understand why they can't just let us preorder. I want to get a Nexus 4 and a new Nexus 7 but the way they've handled this launch is making me reconsider. C'mon Google learn some customer service.

New lock screen with widgets is really cool. I can get all the statuses I want without actually having to unlock my phone. Camera app with photo sphere seems really cool too, but spinning around in my chair kind of messes up the alignment if you start moving around too fast.
I was also using Apex launcher for the last little bit on my GNex, currently it crashes.

Google now is also accessible from the lock screen directly now even with a pattern lock whereas that wasn't the case before.

As mentioned above, I'm not sure how much of a difference it would have made. Chances are you get the exact same results as today, except you have to wait 2 weeks or whatever for the phone to actually come.

Well 4.2 was just released to AOSP today, so I'd imagine a few programs have to fix compatibility issues.

I don't mind waiting a couple of weeks, but I'd like to reserve my place in line now. Right now we have no idea when they'll be available again, and it'll probably be another fight to get an order in. I don't have time for that.
