Dont feel bad for not knowing. Most Calgary drivers still havent figured this out.

Audio books. Seriously. So much better than listening to the radio. It doesn't distract me from driving but it does take away any urgency (stress) from getting to A to B. It's great if you spend a lot of time in the car.

Person going straight has right of way.
The real question is, if all 4 vehicles arrived at the same time, who has the right of way then?

The one who goes first. Say the second car hits the first car well the driver doing the hitting should be at fault.

How do you signal to other drivers in oncoming traffic that they're in the wrong lane?
I was going 60k about 400 meters away from another car that was going the same speed heading towards me on the wrong side of the road. Luckily they noticed and moved into their correct lane but I was afraid I was going to get smashed so I just slowed right down.

What's the correct procedure for when somebody is either spraying you with their hyper-powered windshield washer pump, or driving partially on the shoulder kicking up gravel? Just high beams?

One tip I like to use is the proper set up of my mirrors. The rear view mirror is set up normally while the two door mirrors are set to view what the rear view mirror can't see. Too many drivers set the two side mirrors to overlap the rear view mirror. The less time taking your eyes off the road in front of you for shoulder checks, the more reaction time you'll have when crap happens. I'm not saying it will get rid of shoulder checks but you won't have to turn to look as far.
Quote:
You've been driving for many years. You know how to adjust your mirrors. Who do I take you for, some idiot?
Yes.
Ok, so you may not be an idiot, but chances are, you don't have your side mirrors adjusted properly.
|
Quote:
To adjust your mirrors properly, put your head against the left side door glass, then adjust your left mirror OUT until you just barely can (or barely can not) see the side of your car. THEN, move your head to the center of your car and adjust your right mirror out until you can barely (or barely can not) see the side of your car. The goal is to set it up so that once a car leaves your REAR view mirror, it appears in your SIDE view mirror - and once it leaves your SIDE view mirror, it appears in your side window/peripheral vision. Unfortunately, some American cars don't let you adjust the mirrors out far enough to completely accomplish this. I recommend experimenting in a parking lot until you get the ideal angle.

What if I had a Ferrari and waited until the other car went first then used every horse power to make it so he'd hit me.
This is a never ending game.

I don't get why people attempt to change lanes and then look to see if they are about to cut somebody off or collide with them. Why not just look *first* and avoid looking like an idiot when they swerve back into their lane?

I want to get an opinion on lane changing practices.
When I was learning how to drive, my driving instructor's way was:
1. Mirror
2. Shoulder check
3. Signal
4. Mirror
5. Shoulder check
6. Change lanes
What I usually do now (because I'm a lazy ass) is:
1. Mirror
2. Signal
3. Mirror
4. Shoulder Check
5. Change lanes.
No, I'm not really looking for advice, I've been driving for quite a while now and never had a lane changing incident. Just wanted to see what everyone else does/was taught.

Signal
Mirror
Shoulder check
Change lanes
While I'm driving I am constantly paying attention to my mirrors so I guess you can add a step in front of all that - Mirror. So... same as you.

WRGMG.
There is construction ahead, so the right lane will be blocked, and cars will have to merge into the left lane.
You don't have to premerge 500 meters in advance. Use the whole stretch of road available to you! It's there for a reason.
Instead, I'll drive all the way up to the merge point, and a whole slew of cars won't let me in, because they think I'm a jerk. No, you idiots! YOU'RE the ones all doing it wrong!

That's another thing. Much like you, I also tend to take quick glances at my mirror ever few seconds.
I think a lot of drivers should learn to do that... especially in merge/exit situations.

If you pass a bunch of cars that have already merged, or if the traffic is not moving or going slow, then you are the one being a dick.
