But this thread isn't about ignorant people and arguing about what they (incorrectly) think. (and how you can be so wrong about so many things in three sentences is beyond me)

This is a thread and day about remembering those who sacrificed for our way of life.

No one should be taking your bait and replying to you. Including me, so I'll leave it at that.
Whatever, PM me then. I'd prefer that to one sentence drive-bys. (peter 12)

If this day is about remembering those who 'sacrificed for our way of life' then why are people posting about their ancestors killing German or taking Germans prisoner and stealing their possessions?

Because that is part of remembering. The good and the bad. And I am sure the Germans took souvenirs as well.

Haha he took a button that would be stripped from a POW regardless and he killed someone in a time of war, where it would be kill someone or be killed yourself and it is something that haunted him to his last days. He sacrificed his well-being in the second example, not just because he was shot and gassed but also because of the memories of what he had done, not because he wanted to, but because it was what he had to do. I can't imagine someone saying any of that crap to a veteran.

Sorry I am actually quite perturbed at your comments because it really does show a failing of our educational system more than anything.

Half of the art in Europe likely counts as one.

Allied propaganda, nothing more. Goring has receipts.

So its alright as long as the Nazis were doing it too? Thats how central Europe became a mass graveyard.

You all are missing the point.
Remeberance Day isn't supposed to be about the glory of war (according to this thread). There were two posts celebrating the exploits of their ancestors. I called them on it.

Send the souvenir back to Germany, it doesn't belong to you.

Exactly. Wanna pay respect to veterans? Get off your ass and vote. With a voting percentage of 50-60% in most elections, the least people could do is exercise the freedom that these vets died for. Most people dont though.

You can rip Magnum all you want from your high horse, but in the end plundering a war trophy (which is exactly what it is) is wrong; morally and legally.

No you doubt you wouldnt find the practice so palatable if a Taliban fighter ripped a patch from a Canadian soldier's body after killing him.

It doesnt make it right just because "the good guys" did it.

Where does it say you can't celebrate your ancestors exploits. Retelling the stories is part of it.

Remember this comment when years from now, Afghan Taliban children celebrate the successful IED campaign against Canadians.

They put there lives at risk I am sure a reasonable person could overlook a trophy. A person is asked to kill another human and people are worried about morals of taking a small token to remember? Now if were ears or fingers then I could understand the outrage.

I am sure they probably already do. Why should that prevent us from celebrating? If we don't are they not going to? Remember celebrating does not always imply happiness.
