If this day is about remembering those who 'sacrificed for our way of life' then why are people posting about their ancestors killing German or taking Germans prisoner and stealing their possessions?

Because that is part of remembering. The good and the bad. And I am sure the Germans took souvenirs as well.

Haha he took a button that would be stripped from a POW regardless and he killed someone in a time of war, where it would be kill someone or be killed yourself and it is something that haunted him to his last days. He sacrificed his well-being in the second example, not just because he was shot and gassed but also because of the memories of what he had done, not because he wanted to, but because it was what he had to do. I can't imagine someone saying any of that crap to a veteran.

Sorry I am actually quite perturbed at your comments because it really does show a failing of our educational system more than anything.

Remeberance Day isn't supposed to be about the glory of war (according to this thread). There were two posts celebrating the exploits of their ancestors. I called them on it.

Exactly. Wanna pay respect to veterans? Get off your ass and vote. With a voting percentage of 50-60% in most elections, the least people could do is exercise the freedom that these vets died for. Most people dont though.

You can rip Magnum all you want from your high horse, but in the end plundering a war trophy (which is exactly what it is) is wrong; morally and legally.

No you doubt you wouldnt find the practice so palatable if a Taliban fighter ripped a patch from a Canadian soldier's body after killing him.

It doesnt make it right just because "the good guys" did it.

Where does it say you can't celebrate your ancestors exploits. Retelling the stories is part of it.

They put there lives at risk I am sure a reasonable person could overlook a trophy. A person is asked to kill another human and people are worried about morals of taking a small token to remember? Now if were ears or fingers then I could understand the outrage.
