I think Cornish SHOULD WIN the MOP as well but I still have the feeling that the voters will not let him win it. He should be the only double winner in the individual awards. As for my pick on the rookie of the year, i was not very familiar with both Westerman and Matthews. I did see Matthews played one game and he was awesome but the reason i picked Westerman was because he is playing for top team compare to Matthews who is playing for the worst team Winnipeg. Other than that, i have no clue who will win between the two.

Unreal. I was just told Dean Molberg was a grade A idiot with some comments he made on the The Morning Show today. He said he wants the plane carrying the Riders to Calgary this weekend to crash and that he hopes four people die. He hopes everyone on the crew doesn't get hurt, just that four Rider players dies.
Maybe the ###### bags comments should be played to Edwin Harrison who lost his grandfather in the plane crash in the 50's. I seriously hope his ass gets fired over his comments.

Cornish should win but with him being up for Canadian I could see Eastern guys voting for their guy in Owens.
Williams, Cornish and overrated Sherritt should be locks to win their awards.
Not too sure about the rookies but it did seem like a weak crop this year. Williams seemed very hot at the start of the year so I will give him the nod.
Linemen is tough to say at the best of times and either guy could win.
Seems odd it took this long for the Boomer comments to come out especially with all the Prider fans in Calgary/listening to the station and just loving to run back to Prider fans to broadcast this for all the idiots there.

Yeah, I was a little shocked when I heard that on the radio yesterday. Obviously in jest, but even so, it seems like a line you don't cross. His cohosts even gave him chances to back out but he didn't. I think Walker said something like "You're telling me you want members of the Roughriders to die?", and Dean replied "Well, it sounds harsh when you put it that way...but yeah".
I'd be surprised if he didn't regret those comments later in the day. Not sure if it's discipline worthy, but I think he should issue an apology.

Apparently Boomer apologized this morning. And this is from the fan's facebook page:
Quote:
During the morning show on Wednesday, November 7th, on Sportsnet 960 The FAN, our morning show host, Dean "Boomer" Molberg made an offside comment about the Saskatchewan Roughriders. It was a misguided attempt at humour. Our station, our company and of course myself as the program director do not condone this comment. It was uncalled for and embarrassing for our entire staff here at the station. I would like to offer my sincere apology to go along with Dean's on air apology that was aired today.

Cornish is far and away the CFL's best back. He was easily the MOP this year in my mind.

Touche.
I just think the whole 'pro football record' for all purpose yards is a little overblown. 2 more games than NFL, bigger field, etc.
Teams had to scheme to stop Cornish, and if they did, they most often won. Hell, with Kevin Glenn as the QB the Stamps won 12 games.

More from the fan's facebook page:
Quote:
From Dean (Boomer) Molberg:
I’m writing this letter of apology in regards to the unacceptable comments towards the Saskatchewan Roughriders I made during our morning show on Sportsnet 960 The Fan on Wednesday, November 7th.
It was an attempt at being funny, which in the end was neither funny nor appropriate. Not even close. It was clearly not thought out, for if it was I’d have never said it. There is no excuse for it, and I’m not in any way looking to defend my actions. This was in no way, shape or form a ratings ploy or an attempt to garner attention to myself or the radio station. I made a mistake.
I would like to firstly apologize to the Saskatchewan Roughriders Football Club, staff, players and family and fans. My comments are no doubt troubling to you all, and as someone who has a young family myself, I hope you can understand the regret I have for saying them. I made a huge error in judgment and very sincerely wish no harm to any of you. We are all appreciative of the rivalry that exists between these two clubs, and I unfortunately made a terrible choice in an attempt to add fuel to it.
I wish to apologize to Lyle Bauer, John Hufnagel and everyone involved with the Calgary Stampeders Football Club. The Stampeders are a first rate organization, and I’m sorry that my foolish comments are something that you have to deal with at any time, let alone this close to the biggest game of your season. I’d like to specifically apologize to Stamps offensive lineman Edwin Harrison. My comments would be especially troubling to you given the loss of your grandfather. To all at the Stampeders office, I hope you can understand the remorse that I feel for involving you in this.
I also need to issue an apology to the Canadian Football League and its members. The League has done amazing work during this historic season to celebrate its rich history en route to the 100th Grey Cup. I have watched the CFL since my childhood and have wonderful memories of watching games with my family. I’m deeply sorry that because of my comments, even a small amount of attention will come away from the playoff games and be focused elsewhere.
I apologize to Rogers Communications, Sportsnet 960 – The Fan, Kelly Kirch, and all members of our staff. We work incredibly hard to bring a product to the air that we can be proud of. On Wednesday, I said something that instead, brought embarrassment to us all. I made a foolish decision and now the entire family and staff are subject to this awkward situation. To our listeners, I hope you don’t take this isolated set of circumstances and make a conclusion about me or our station.
This may seem like a hollow gesture to some, but I can assure you it is extremely heartfelt. I am deeply rattled by what has happened. This was not premeditated or meant in a serious manner what so ever. It was a throw away comment at the end of a segment, that I very much regret. -Dean

Totally agree. Total yards is dumb. Give one guy a chance to return punts, kickoff and starting role on offence and that record would be broken every other year if not every year. You can argue he's durable but again more games, bigger field, crappy team where you return a lot makes is meaningless to me.
Another one is tackles. If you're offense sucks and you're on the field 40 minutes a game you better be making tackles. Sherrit's record was summed up by him and his teammates celebrating after a Stamp had already gotten a first down.
Far more impressive is tackles for loss.

Is there a site similar to capgeek for CFL salaries? I've often wondered what CFL players make, because I've been told some have a job in the off-season?
Like what does the average offensive/defensive lineman make?

no, most teams don't reveal individual salaries, seeing as players don't make much more than the average Joe. I guess that way we can't criticize them because another player is better but making less etc. It would be nice to have a capgeek type of site, maybe someday there will be. just think if the NHL didn't reveal salaries, we might have different favourite players and we couldn't criticize guys like Stajan for making too much

The league minimum salary in the CFL is around $41,000, according to Monster.com. Lower draft selections and undrafted free agents typically earn the minimum rate, while high draft picks can earn approximately $50,000 in their first year. Some established veterans command six-figure salaries. A few elite players earn substantially more. For example, Edmonton Eskimos' quarterback Ricky Ray ranked as the highest-paid player in the league in 2009 with a salary of $460,000.

lol that would change things around here that's for sure! However I still think Stajan would be made fun of.
I'm just curious because I've heard conflicting information on it. One person says that an offensive lineman would make $100k/year, plus get a $1m pension after 5 years service in the league. Then another stated that most make average Joe salary, and some even have other jobs.

haha yea that's true.
well to be fair, on Calgarypuck $100k/year is average joe salary
people who like to downplay the CFL probably would lean more to saying oh they all have to get second jobs. minimum salary is $41k for a rookie, so it's not alot, and they may have to get second jobs, but most are making enough to be ok while they are playing, although they need to get jobs after. I haven't heard about the $1m pension, but that's not bad for 5 years of service if true.

Kavis Reed is such an idiot. Kerry Joseph is a bum and he would have given the starting job to Matt Nicholls against the Argos on Sunday. I don't think they have a chance against the Argos so why not use the guy with the hot hand Matt Nicholls, who happens to play very well when he was put in late in the game against the Als and I thought he had some chemistry with Fred Stamps and Koch last game vs the Stampeders.

JC Sherrit will NOT play today. I wonder if TSN loses their hard-on for him or will we still have to hear about him after every 2nd play?
