Any news on the Charter. I know the province kyboshed it - has Nenshi indicated if they might submit another modified application.
Province is really pi$$ing me off. They take 1/2 of all property taxes, they wont give the city more money for infrastructure, and now they wont give the city extra taxing powers for gasoline, restraunts, hotels, etc.

Jason Markusoff with the Herald now reporting that if Nenshi runs again Alderman Chabot says he will not put his name forward to run for mayor. Instead he'll seek another term in Ward 10.

The province doesn't take any property taxes. Maybe you're confused with the school taxes, which are collected by municipalities but are not a property tax.

Well some industrious internet people have managed to search and pull images from the Nenshi website indicating a 2013 re-election run, and the real coup is they just found the video from Nenshi to his supporters announcing that he will indeed run. Watched it with my own eyes, it's on people!

I'm sure when things get closer and actual campaigning will begin the Nenshi team will be hosting some information sessions (just like last time). Will post the details of them here.

Hardly surprising though. He will win an easy re-election I would say. Will anyone credible even challenge him?

Nenshi will win again in 2013, and in 2016 he'll run for Premier where he'll subsequently take Redford and Smith to the woodshed.

I would have been a lot more surprised if he didn't run again.
Go purple.

It would definitely be unusual for someone to go into politics, win, and then only stay for one term. I could have seen him quit being mayor if he ran provincially or federally, but other than that why leave after one term?

Absolutely yes there is an education property tax. About 50% of your residential property tax is for this purpose.

Not kyboshed - but they did indicate they don't want to cede new taxing powers. Mayor is actually not asking for a net increase in anyone's taxes, only that what each order of government gets is rebalanced. City gets 8 cents of your total tax dollar, province and Feds get 92 cents. He's saying - what if, for example, they only got 90 cents and municipalities got 10 in order to meet demands. City also wants to reduce reliance on property tax - too inflexible and regressive.
